I didn't have chemo. I had lumpectomy followed by 33 rad treatments. But , like the others said , it depends on many things. Mine was IDC, but very small (6mm), clear margins, clear nodes, stage 1A. Did you have the Onco test?
Carol
I had some nodes removed but all ok...I was wondering since I HEAR most have chemo and Rad....thanks for info...0 -

I had radiation, no chemo, but my cancer was DCIS which is not (yet) invasive. They didn't think node testing was necessary either. There are so many factors to consider when deciding on treatment.....
~~Connie~~
I had a lumpectomy with radiation treatments. I didn't have to take chemo, which I am so thankful for.

I had breast conserving surgery which is more than a lumpectomy but leaves the breast smaller but in tact. Then I had 33 radiation treatments.

bil lateral, 16 weeks of dense chemo therapy - every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. - no break, no vacation - no rest periods .. Extreme Fatigue, and multiple side efforts - too many to count - finished TCH 12/18/09 .. Herceptin continued to August 20, 2010.
No drugs for 1 year or 5 years .. or Radiation.
We are all different with 1 exception - 2 words - Breast Cancer. I am ...so elated that I found this site, otherwise - I would be walking around in circles, fatigued, drippy eyes, and nose - thinking I was crazy - cuz, you see my Onc and is PA told me no such side efforts .. low energy maybe, hair loss yes .. no other side efforts .
Living with side efforts - galore!!! and Ned in Southern California :-)))

I had a lumpectomy too. And, a few weeks later, I started radiation treatments. Chemo therapy was not a part of my treatment. I feel lucky in that way.
I believe that the bc sisters that do chemo are true warriors!

radiation no chemo
Hey Disney,
I also had rad and no chemo. They put me on Arimidex, because of my age, and not Tamlofen. Well I was on it for 3 months and was more sick than you can imagine. Finally 3-4 days ago my ono took me off the pill. And.....today is the first day that I can say I feel GOOD! Thought I would never say that again. I had swollen feet, lets, hands and arm. Also my energy was so bad I couldn't even get up from my chair. Couldn't eat but was gaining weight. Felt like chit all day and all night. Will see ono in a month and will decide if I need a different pill or not. My cancer is hormone fed and that is why I was on the pill in the first place. So now I am at odds of whether I should go back on one or not. If anyone has any feedback on this please let me know.
Did you have a lumpectomy or mast? I had a lumpectomy and 9 nodes removed with all cancer gone. No cancer in nodes. This is so hard to take and no one seems to no the answers. We all have different results and problems. Praying I am doing the right thing going off the meds. But.... I felt I was dying and couldn't take it anymore.
My prayers are with you, Disney.

I'm IBC and my treatment
I'm IBC and my treatment schedule was 4 A/C (every 2 weeks), mod. rad. mast. (right) 2 weeks after last A/C. 3 weeks after surgery I started 12 weekly Taxol and 1 week after last Taxol I started 25 rads. I started Femara approx. 1 - 1 1/2 weeks into rads.
I have recently seen some IBCers who have said that they had 2 different chemos before surgery. My Chemo Dr and Surgeon both were of the opinion that they had gotten enough shrinkage, thus probably good margins (which was true) so the best idea was to get the masses out and then hit again with Chemo to get any small thing that might have been missed before Rads. Surgery was Oct. 21, 2009 and I'm still riding NED so for me apparently that was a good protocol to follow for me.
