thank you william for replying. I did not have any chemo or radiation treatments and supposedly I am cancer free. My bloodwork has been good but the only real nagging problem is the feet.I never had any problems before and thought it was awful coincidental that this started 5 months after my surgery. My doctor didn't say anything about a relation to cancer. That has been my biggest fear. I am seeing the orthopedic surgeon tues I will ask him.my philosophy is when in doubt,take it out.

    I was diagnosed early 10years ago w/barrets esophagus. after my annual egd last jan they dicovered cancerous cells and opted for the quick surgery . i had numerous isuees w/because e-coli infections in my chest and chest tubes being yanked out and all sorts of things went wrong that could go wrong. It took a slew of doctors to figure it out but they got me out of the hospital. I thought I would never leave.They say they got it all out and I believe that but I was wondering if neuropathy is a cause of being defecient in some soort of vitamin or enzzyme. is the cause of yours because of the drugs or the result of the operation and how would you know the differance.

    There are a number of causes for neuropathy

    In my case it was definitely a side effect of the Cisplatin I was given as a part of my chemotherapy. It is a common side effect of that class of drug.

    Neuropathy can also be caused by "Nutritional problems and vitamin deficiencies, often from a lack of B vitamins". See web reference below:

    The good news is that it is no indication that the esophageal cancer has returned. I assumed since you said that you were in the oncology ward that you had some form of chemotherapy. But since you have not; I would look toward one of the several other potential causes listed in the web reference above.

    William you are by far the most informative source I ahave had in the last couple months.Being a very busy individual I don't get a chance to really do the research . To answer your question about my quick fix as I call it, I was diagosed with e-cancer on jan 19 and had the operation on feb 8. My gastro doctor sent me to the oncology surgeon aafter telling me i would need to have the operation. The surgeon told me I needed to have the operation right away. I told him I wanted a second opinion and he told me he was the second opinion. I went to my regular dr. and he told me the same thing as the other 2 doctors. There is a cure but it sucks. They were absolutely right. It did. I feel blessed that I made it thru.I lost 65 lbs but I have stabilized my weight and I feel great except this nagging debilitating disorder.I guess I am going to start with deficiency angle and try to infuse more b vitamins into my diet. The links you sent me have been most helpful.
    Thank you guys for the inspiration I really do appreciate it. I wish I found this website a lomg time ago. I have a appt. this morning with the orthopedic guy and I am going in armed w/ knowledge. It does amaze me that between my surgeon,a podiatrst,my reg. dr and the orthopedic surgeon that not one of them would associate the surgery with my foot malady. You want to believe when you walk into a doctors office they have your best interests and that they explore all possibilities. Unfortunately they want to go the pharmsceutical route. I guess that is why they call it practicing medicine.
