Good CT Scan!

Bob had his first CT since surgery 3 months ago and the results were good! No cancer detected. He will be starting post op chemo on Dec 7 of Xeloda & Oxiplatin. We had a great Thanksgiving and are truly counting our blessings, which are many! He hasn't had this chemo regimen before, so if anyone has any helpful advise, we appreciate it. Linda

    Good Scan-More Chemo
    Yes, the chemo is because there was a positve lymph node near the stomach area. His tumor was reduced in size, but not gone. He went from T3 before chemo/radiation to T2 at the time of surgery. Since his therapy was Irinotecan/Cisplatin and he never had any 5FU, they thought it might be a good idea. I believe the Xeloda is an oral type of 5FU. Our chemo lab hydrates before they start the drugs, then add the anti-nausea meds, and then hydrate again before you leave. So he always had a full 1 or 2 bags of fluids. Hopefully that will be the plan again, if not we will address it. Mayo has info published about getting magnesium and calcium by iv and how it significantly reduces a lot of the hand/feet issues,tingling,neurological side effects, so I plan to check on that also. That is for the oxiplatin side effects. Linda

    Hi Linda,
    So happy to hear the good news about the scan. Will be thinking of you and Bob and hoping he gets thru the chemo regimen alright. I had post op chemo for a positive node found during surgery but my regimen was Taxotere. It was hard but getting clear scans since, so not complaining. I hope Bob does really well and keeps up his nourishment for strength. take care, prayers for all,

    So happy to hear about Bob's scan!!! Sometimes I think EC is just living between scans, always worried what the next one will show, so this is time to celebrate!

    Sherri gave me some of the best advice for my dad. Zofran, the under the tounge kind, every morning BEFORE Bob feels any nausea. At least for awhile my dad called it his miracle drug. It improved his quality of life so much since he was throwing up violently 5 times a day or more.

    I don't know why my dad's oncologist didn't prescribe it, we had to ask for it. He was on Compazine I believe and it wasn't doing a thing. Most of the time we had to ask the doctor for specific medications, ones that were recommended from fellow EC board people.

    I bring that up to you because we live in the same city and have the same group of doctors. Sometimes it seems that they have this standard treatment plan and need a nudge to try something else if it is not working for their patient.

    Glad to hear the scan went well. Yes the "scaniety" continues. My next scan is scheduled for mid-Feb and already I am anxious. February is also my 1 year anniversay of my diagnosis. I too had post surgery chemo, cisplatin and 5FU. Chemo is tough, especially when you are still recovering from surgery. My weight loss continued thru chemo. My weight is stable now and am doing very well. I am most grateful for wonderful healthcare and supportive family and friends that has brought me this far. God Bless......

    PS I am anxiously waiting for the Northern Iowa -Creighton basketball game. We are avid Panther fans and you now have our former coach! Should be fun!
