Sounds like thrush.
Talk with your doctor. There are a number of prescription rinses that work well against thrush. Your doctor will recommend what he thinks is best. I used Nystatin. I also rinsed with warm water/salt/baking soda. I used a mix of one cup warm water to one teaspoon each of salt and baking soda. Other folks used different rinses. Keeps the pH of the mouth in balance.

Still Early
Most people don't get into the worst symptoms until around week four...so hopefully you'll have a little time before it gets too bad for you..
I used a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda...about 1/4 glass of each for a rinse. Of course I had the thick majic mixture, oxicotin, percocets, hydrocodone and liquid morphine for when it got really bad, LOL....
I also had Amifostine Injections everyday just before the radiation. I believe that helped a lot as for not getting the thick ropey phlegm.
Best,

rinses
my doctor had me get caphosol (it is expensive) before radiation treatments, it helped with my mucous levels...I also feel it helped my mouth heal when i got mouth sores. I also used a salt and baking soda rinse (1tsp of each in water). I also developed a white film under my mouth piece...I was able to scrape it off. the doctor said it wasn't thrush. once it was gone, my mouth was a little tender, but the sores in that area cleared up very quickly. I would check with your doctor to make sure it isn't thrush before you try to wipe it off though.0 -

I did the salt and baking soda with water rinse. Also my nurses in my ROs office gave me a liitle kit with sponges on a stick to brush my teeth with as well as a lip balm and moisturizer and a mouth rinse. Very helpful.0 -
mouth stuff
Hey Mike,
I just finished up my 14th rad today. I've got a couple sores and the white coating as well. I've been using the Caphosol 4-8 times daily to keep the ph balanced and sipping water constantly for the dry mouth. My doc gave me a product called Ulcerease that is a rinse that numbs the whole mouth instantly. It's good stuff. I also rinse with the L-Glutamine solution 2-3 times a day. 2-3 teaspoons in about 8oz. water makes a good rinse that you swallow also to coat the throat. This is my favorite as it feels the best. Hang in there, you're almost 1/4 done with rads. All my best to you,

bob,
I relied on caphosol throughout my treatment...I finished 30 rads 1.5 weeks ago. I used 10 per day when I got the worst sores...I felt it helped a lot...that and numbing rinses. best of luck to you!
