Sad Thanksgiving
This is going to be a sad Thanksgiving for me, my kids & their families. My husband passed away in March and we all miss him so much. Having an empty chair at the table is going to be hard. Guess the 1st holidays without your loved one are the worst.
I am thankful for this site though and all the people on it. It helps to be able to talk to someone on here who understands. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Terry. "Carole"0 -

Yes the holidays are hard to endure without a loved one. But if you can remember all of the good times you had together and only talk about those. Hoping for peace for you and your family.
Best

I used to love Christmas when I was little but when my little brother passed away it really put a strain on my holiday season. Then thru the years other things did too. I won't get into it, but suffice to say I usually spend the holidays pretty cranky and depressed. This year I am going to try and be a little better about it. At least I can eat this year so that is a plus! Since I'm not working, and I don't have the stress of having to be in retail during the holidays, I am going to try and focus more on giving back and not focusing on what and who I have lost. I'm hoping giving more of myself will help me put things in perspective and give me the kick in the arse I need.0 -

For some reason I am normally cranky during the holidays and there is no real reason for it. I am going to do my best to enjoy my wonderful parents and having 15 days off from work. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I do understand what you are feeling. I have lost my mother, Baby brother and baby sister. The holidays are not the same and can be very depressing. I am going to try and stay focused on the positive this year though. Try to remember all the good times and be thankful you and your children have your health. Things may be bad, but try to remember it could always be worse. Time will help heal, but it will never be the same. Try to stay possitive for your family. That is a tall order though. I am so sorry for your loss.

Holidays
Amen to that, Terry. I think that this holiday season will be one of the best, if not the best ever for me personally. Getting a clean cancer scan just this week paves the way for a joyous season. There's nothing quite like thinking you may have only one or two holiday seasons left to make you truly appreciate them. I believe that a life-threatening illness like most of us here have had really makes you appreciate the simpler things in life. I, for one, am hugely grateful to be alive and in pretty good health and good spirits for the upcoming season. I wish everybody a great holiday season. I plan on sending some very complimentary Christmas cards this year to the wonderful people who have given me back my life. I am very appreciative of the doctors, nurses, techs and everybody else who helped me get to a point in my life where I am NED. Also, many thanks to all the wonderful people on this site who are so supportive and understanding. I think the bond that holds we survivors together is very similar to the bond formed by soldiers in battle and that is indeed a strong bond.0 -

Couldn't have said it any better. I am like some and get cranky during the holiday season. My wonderful wife reminded me of where I was at last holiday season. That brought being grateful to a new reality. We do the same to all those nurses, doctors etc. that took care of me also. Again a happy holiday season to all. Wishes & Prayers to those that have to be going thru treatment at this time of year.

Dennis,
2003 was the year that sucked for me. I lost my son on my sister's birthday and then my sister two days after my son's birthday and had just lost my father. I hated when people would say cliche things but I bit my tongue because they meant well. But I am now going to say something "cliche"...the pain gets more tolerable with time. I still don't like holidays but refuse to bring everyone else down so I go through them.
All on this board have a lot to be thankful for and at least our families aren't on the board for those who lost loved ones and yes you will survive this crap. Besides Hondo got a clear bill of health so be happy for that :>)

I am so sorry for the pain and the loss for all of you here. I know pain and loss very well. I buried my baby brother on his birthday, lost my mother to melanoma skin cancer, and the baby girl of the family at age 29 in a car wreck, half my family, now my husband of 30 years is fighting for his life.
So U see some have it just as bad, and some have it worse.... Be thankful for what God has provided you so far in your life. I cherish their memory and miss them all daily still. I am still thankful to my heavenly father for all he does for me daily.
Be thankful for the family you have left and cherish every moment you can with them. Nothing lasts forever. I understand the anger, but you have to let it go and turn to God and be thankful for another day of life if nothing else. We are all only a breath away form heaven and that is a blessing in itself. Don't mean to preach here, but I always have something, or someone in my life to be thankful for. Life is to short not to try and Love what you have been given and not to look past that for the bad you have to indure along the way. Love you all and hope you feel better soon.0 -

As Buzz is going through treatment right now, we won't be celebrating the holidays like we did when Buzz was healthy but although we are giving up this Thanksgiving and Christmas, we hopefully will celebrate many more holidays together. I am thankful that Buzz has come through the TPF Induction Chemo and is now enjoying somewhat of a respite before the radiation starts to give him all the side effects. Our best wishes to all of you who have traveled or are travelling down this path. You are all so courageous. God Bless!0 -
