coping with the holidays-TIPS Accepted

Happy Thanksgiving!
As for food, one of the best tips I ever got was to make my mashed potatoes in a slow cooker. Put them in there and forget them, just about, and they're piping hot when you're ready to eat!
Also, I think it's best to remember that the holiday season is about being with people you love, not about impressing anyone. Do the best you can, and just enjoy the time together.

Fable of the porcupine
It was the coldest
winter ever. Many animals died because of the
cold. The porcupines, realizing the situation, decided
to group together. This way they covered and protected
themselves; but the quills of each one wounded their closest
companions even though they gave off heat to each other.
After a while, they decided to distance themselves one
from the other and they began to die, alone and frozen.
So they had to make a choice: either accept the quills of
their companions or disappear from the Earth. Wisely,
they decided to go back to being together. This way they
learned to live with the little wounds that were caused by the
close relationship with their companion, but the most
important part of it was the heat that came from the others.
This way they were able to survive.
The best relationship is not the one that brings
together perfect people, but the best is when each individual
learns to live with the imperfections of others and can admire
the other person's good qualities.
The Moral of the story:
LEARN TO LOVE THE PRICKS IN YOUR LIFE.0 -

Thank you, sweetie!
(I'm sitting here at 2am, and I really needed that!)

ROTFLMAO! Too funny! Thanks for a good laugh! Too bad I can't pass this on to my 92 year old mother-in-law ( she wouldn't get it ). The poor woman just washed and waxed her kitchen cabinets, cleaned out and washed down her refrigerator, and is fretting over the fact that the company coming for the holidays might say something about her house not being "clean enough". I told her not to lift a finger, but of course she is wearing herself out! Unfortunately the company coming will be rude enough to let her know that something is "wrong" in their opinion. They pulled that crap on me when I was younger...They actually invited themselves to my brand new home while we were trying to move in and then were very rude about the lack of amenities! ( They were not even visiting to see us, but to use us as a hotel of course while they attended something in Washington DC )!
I DO NOT have company period! I learned to say NO! This was precancer, so I just told people that I was not up to company. If they want to meet us for dinner at a resturant....that is cool. Otherwise forget it!
We live in the Washington Dc area, so when we first moved here everybody wanted to come for a visit...many stayed for several weeks. Most were welcome, several made my life miserable and thus I ended up with my no company rule.
As for recipes....I don't cook, but pecan pie with chocolate chips is very decadent! I have bought this at Cracker Barrel several times. I have seen some great recipes online too!
I live with a vegetarian, so Thanksgiving/Christmas has become quite the challange for me so we usually just eat out! ( We have had Tofurky....it was actually ok )
Have a Wonderful Holiday Season!
Take Care,
Barb0
