Testicular Cancer in children?

I was very curious as to whether or not I am alone in being a young testicular cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the age of 1 day old, and was cured of cancer with surgery at 3 days old. Are there any others out there who were diagnosed as young as myself, or are there any survivors my age at all? I read an article about testicular cancer, and it titled a 3yr old boy as the youngest testicular cancer survivor in the world, making me wonder if there might be others like myself who never had their diagnoses of cancer publicized.

This is out of curiousness to see if I am alone when it comes to being a young man who has had testicular cancer.

    I have not heard of anyone
    I have not heard of anyone that young getting TC, but I can see no reason why it couldn't happen. TC is a very rare cancer, so there really aren't many survivors in all age groups combined. I doubt you will find many who were diagnosed before puberty, but I could be wrong.

    I guess so, my cancer was caused by high estrogen levels. And that shouldn't even occur for anybody until after puberty, because estrogen is in men as well. I still have yet to figure out what might have caused the extremely high estrogen levels in my pre-natal state. It is a very hard question, but when something like this happens to you, you want answers.

    Well, if you are not now under the care of a good endocrinologist, you probably should find one. There are lots of things that can cause that sort of problem in adults, but I'm unaware of them happening in younger folks. A good endo should be able to sort that out & provide treatment if needed. I'm not sure how old you are now, but sooner is always better than later in these things.

    This is a bit off track, but
    This is a bit off track, but when I was diagnosed, we did speak with our children's pediatrician. I have 2 boys, 1 is 13 years old. The doctor had told me that I need to show him how to "self check" because TC is hereditary and can start in the teenage years. I also did find out at birth I had an undescended testicle which can be a precursor for TC.

    So you're telling me that Testicular Cancer CAN be passed on to my children? I go in for screenings every few years, to make sure there is no sign of Cancer, but they never told me that this could affect my children! It slightly angers me that I was not informed such a thing, given my age in life now, seeing that I'm moving into my own life, and a new family eventually. This kind of thing I would like to know about, especially my spouse. I do not take Cancer lightly, I've seen many people die of it, and I have my grandfather in my home dying from cancer now.

    I hate to jump onto the subject so quickly, but I am vastly intrigued.

    Wait a minute
    I've seen no indication that TC can be "passed on" in any thing I've read, but if you have a cancer history in your family, you are at an increased risk of getting cancer during your life.Just the way the cancer odds work, I'm afraid.

    hi,

    When my husband was diagnosed, we too were informed to teach or boys how to self check and be diligent if they should have pain, etc. It has been 6 years now, and as teenagers my sons get so embarrassed when I ask them if they've done one recently.

    You didn't *really* think
    You didn't *really* think they wouldn't get embarrassed, did you? Even if it was dad asking, they'd be embarrassed, but MOM? They are teenagers, after all...

    When I explained this to my
    When I explained this to my teenager, his response was, "you want me to do what? why?"

    My treatment finished January of 2010, I go in Monday 12/20 for a follow up, labs and chest x-ray. I am confidient all is still well. My oncologist rotates every 3 months, CT Scan, Chest x-ray.

    Good luck with your followup tests. I hope that you have good results. My husband is very quiet, so it had to come from mom:) They've survived this long, guess they'll have to put up with me a few more years.

    Hey, you're not alone, I am also a young TC survivor. I was diagnosed very early in life and was cured (hopefully!) with surgery at 2 years old. Not quite as young as yourself, but still fairly young.

    The whole youngest in the world is more of a publicity thing, I'm sure there's a lot more in the same situation.
