liver
Hi Deb!!
I was diagnosed with 3C on Feb. 1st 2010.I also had a tumor "on" my liver. during surgery the doctor "scraped" it off. I had 4 1/2 months of Chemo also. During that time i had my liver checked before evey chemo via blood work. My liver functions were always normal as well.I am pretty sure liver functions before chemo is standard procedure. They check liver functions to make sure the chemo isn't hurting the liver.Do you get the IP chemo as well? When do you get another cat scan? It should show that the tumors have shrunk with the chemo. I had tumors on my peritonium that were left. they were under 2cm as well and went away with chemo. I know this whole experience with ovarian cancer is scary. You have come to the right place to talk about it. Everyone here is AMAZING. I have posted many concerns and have always felt better after reading the feedback from the wonderful women here. I hope i have helped at least a little. There are many women here who have been dealing with this a lot longer than i have and will have more advice than i can offer. The only thing that I know for sure is that a positive attitude and lots of support make all the difference!!! I will add you to my daily prayers. (((HUGS)))

Hi Sandy. Thank you for responding. Dear God please help me. I have two little babies to live for and I'm only 45. My boys are 2 and 4 1/2 and they need me and I need them. I am so scared of the unknown. I was suppose to have my last chemo today and it got postponed because my white blood count is low again (no biggie). I went to the doctor with all sorts of questions and he is great and answered them all for me as honestly as he could. I feel like this is all a nightmare and I'm going to wake up and be okay..... My CA 125 was over 1400 pre surgery. Second chemo it dropped to 4 and has been steady there. How come people get recurrences? Home crying my eyes out. Not the bestest day I've had ;-(0 -
Liver Scrapingnancy591 said:liver
I also had a liver scraping during my initial debulking in Sept. 2008. I was diagnosed at stage 4. I've had no issues with my liver to date. I don't pay too much attention to anything else but the ca125.
My doctor didn't scrape anything. I had the surgery in May and was told the chemo would get the rest. I was also told scraping was dangerous... I just don't understand. So if it isn't in my liver and "only" on my liver how come people just don't get cured? Why does the disease come back?0 -
Do you get pain on your right side from liver scraping?Sandy10 said:liver

I keep getting little pains on my right side and interestingly enough it turns out that that is where the tumors were. Is this normal? Could something be going wrong?0 -

I am Stage IV diagnosed August 2006. I had two rounds of chemo before my debulking. I too had a spot on my liver. The doc told me the chemo would take care of that. I had six more rounds of chemo and the spot on my liver went away.0 -
Hi there Deb. Sorry this is
Hi there Deb. Sorry this is happening to you. I have a daughter myself that I am praying I can get graduated from highschool before this disease gets me, she is 14 now. I hate this stupid disease, hate it hate it, and I'm so sorry you're scared. I wish I had something better to offer other than I'm scared too, I don't know where to turn much of the time, although I have found it is much better for me to speak my fears. When I bottle them up and try to be strong I can make myself ill with worry. Trust in fate, trust in God or the universe or whatever faith you can hold onto.
This seems like such a lame response, I'm so sorry. *hugs* stupid cancer.

scared!
Deb,
You are damn right, it IS scary. It sucks. It's not fair. I was diagnosed at 41yrs old with a 3yr and 5yr old at home. Like most Moms, my kids are my life. I struggled to conceive them and bring them to term. They were wanted desperately.
The good news is 80% of patients respond well to the initial treatment. Hopefully you will have a lengthy remission.
I don't know if they actually 'scrapped' my liver area. I do know that it was biopsied and was positive. I do know that it is not there any longer. I don't worry about the liver. I worry about the ca125.
We seem to have a lot in common. If you want to talk privately please send me a message.0 -

Deb....I don't think anyone knows why ovarian cancer comes back, but it does. Unfortunately, 80% of us will suffer a recurrence within 2 years. There are, however, many second and third (and beyond) line treatments, with more being added all the time. I know two women in "real life" who were diagnosed over 10 years ago, both Stage IIIc. One of them has never had a recurrence, and the other has had many, but she goes back on chemo and kicks its butt - again and again. Never, ever give up. That's my motto.

Having a never give up attitude is my motto also. I was diagnosed 3C 4 1/2 years ago. I had my 1st recurrance 3 1/2 years later and you treat it just like you did the first time. It's not say that it's easy, but it is what we have to do. I've heard some very brave women say that this disease is a marathon and not a sprint.

On my Liver
Hi Deb, I had OVCA over 20 years ago and it came back in 2008. I went through chemo and had a PeT/Scan and was in remission. In 2010 it came back again. Went through more chemo and it got all but one spot. That spot is on my liver. It is 2cm. My doctor now has me on a pill called Metformin. I will stay on this until I get another PET/Scan in December to see how it is working.
I know how scared you are. I am praying for you and your family.
Hugs to you.

I get liver function tests
I get liver function tests every 3 weeks. It's due to the chemo not the disease. Don't worry too much.0 -
My thoughts and prayers are
My thoughts and prayers are with you Deb. I am just starting this journey and I have gained so much by reading the posts on this site. I am continuouly astounded by the suffering these women have gone through and yet their strength and inner resolve seems to be there just when one would think the well would be empty. I especially struggle when I see the women with young children. I love your beach picture and see the joy in all three of you. Keep up the good fight; have that cathartic cry and then go hug those babies. Throughout this battle there needs to be time of peace and calm also.
Hugs, thoughts and prayers. Susan0 -
Hi Deb
I am stage 4 PPC and I have a "thickening" just touching my liver. I too get my bloods done before chemo and my LFT is always good. I also had a CT scan in Sept and my liver was "unremarkable". I am just as confused as you about having "spots" or "thickening" on the liver, but the scans don't lie. I guess OVCA and PPC don't unually metastasize to the liver? Am I right Carlene? (I ask Carlene because she is the fount of all knowledge on these boards!!)
