My wife was diagnosed w/non smoker sclc in August 09 with mets to brain and center of chest.Treatment has consisted of 15 WBR treatments, then 12 cycles of carbo & Alimpta. Tests/scans up to the 11th chemo showed a decrease in the brain lesions as well as the large mass in right lobe, however scans after the 12th once gain showed growth to the large mass and a new node in the center of her chest, that was in June 10. She was tested and approved for a targeted treatment trial.ALK PF1066. We began the trial in July 10, she was randomly selected to receive the Taxotere arm of the trial first, which so far she has done 6 cycles (tomorrow will be #7)She had scans and and MRI just 3 days ago and we will see the results tomorrow before chemo. She has been experiencing swollen ankles and her legs are very very fatigued. She also has the beginning stages of neuropathy in her finger tips and toes. Confusion and balance are also an issue.

We lost our daughter to Multiple Myeloma exactly 2 weeks before my wifes diagnosis last year, our daughter was diagnosed just 10 months earlier before she lost her fight. Although my wife is not at hospice stage we both have those images on our mind and she is begining to relate our daughters symptoms with her own.

Does anyone out there have experience and advice at this point? My wife is a very positive person by nature and she is fighting this terrible disease with all her might, but lately she is slowing down.
Thanks for listening

    Clinical Trial
So sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter and now your wife's battle with LC. Since she's in a clinical trial, she should be being watched. What are they saying about what is happening with her? Neuropathy is pretty common with many chemo drugs. I would check with the doctor's in the trial. Wishing you the best. Take care, Judy

    swollen feet..
Hi Judy, We met with her doctors on Monday and they sent her for an ultrasound after she completed chemo. They are checing for blood clots. My wife is carrying around an extra 6-8 lbs of fluid which tires her very easily when she walks. While we wait for the results she began wearing support stockings during the day to control the swelling.
Yes the neuropathy is common as we have recently discovered, it hasn't progressed and we have found that it helps when I massage her fingers and toes.

    Thanks for reply.

    thanks for advice
Hello Frankie, thank you for the advice the bed wedge is helpful. My wide has been wearing support stockings for the swelling and that appears to help too. Her legs still become very tired, even after only 10-20 steps.
Balance is an issue too so we need to be careful. Side effects all I'm told!
Thanks again for the advice, hope your Mom is doin the best she possibly can.
