Hi Liz,
I am doing just fine. I had the vats procedure to remove the nodule on 9-23, along with a lobectomy due to the fact that it was a squamous cell nodule. This was not a met and the way they determined that was because the anal cancer had hpv and the lung nodule did not. So because it was the size of a pea at 11mms and the lobe was removed this is curative and no further tx is required, and they will just scan me. My next scan is 1-18-11. I returned to work on 10-26 and feel fine. The incisions are healing very well. Its just amazing what can be done these days. I hope your doing fine also. Lori0 -

Hi Lori - glad to hear that the surgery is done and no further tx is required. I found it interesting how they determine whether any new cancer is a met or not by whether or not it is hpv related. I think I did read somewhere that if there is a met from the anal cancer it will be the same. Interesting. Glad to hear you are feeling fine and back at work...be well, Marilyne0 -

I too find this very interesting. I have yet to have any confirmation that my anal cancer is related to HPV. No one has indicated that they think there is any importance in confirming it or not. When I had the biopsy for the liver met and the pleura met...pathology said it was sqamous cell, so they determined it was from the original cancer. I HATE that there does not seem to be any continuity in diagnosing this cancer!!! I can appreciate that there are not that many cases of it, compared to other cancers, but why can't everyone get on the same page. This is our life we are talking about here!!!
Take care,

I was never informed that my cancer was HPV related either--no test(s) to rule it in or out were ever done. The only thing my doctors ever said was "Anal cancer usually is (HPV related). The anal warts that were removed in September were not tested for HPV either.

I was tested for HPV at time of diagnosis. Came out negative. I honestly gave up trying to figure it out.
