Dearest Nikkers
I am so sorry to hear this shocking and frightening news. I'm sorry but I am not too familiar with your nieces situation..How long has she been diagnosed? Where is she being treated? Not sure also that your brother really isn't in shock either...not enough time to write a letter, but you don't need to get there? It sounds like no matter whether she has many many days years months, you would probably be a calming influence....what is in your heart? Do you want to go, then go....why wait for a call..if you want to be there....Although I don't really know where you are and where you might be going....I hope this makes sense. I am soo sorry to hear this news, and so sad that a one year old boy might be losing his Mom...this is so unfair....trut your heart.. and do what feels right. Please keep us posted.. Lisa0 -

My niece lives in Cheltenham in England and I live in Oregon in the States. The distance is great but the family is strong and we make sure we see each other often - in fact my niece came here 4 months ago (before diagnosis) and my brother and wife we saw in Spain just 2weeks ago. A week and a half ago right as we were heading home from Spain we received an email that during my nieces keyhole surgery to remove a cyst on her ovary they found cancer on the ovary, bowel and perineum - more tests were required to find the source of the cancer and this is what has happened now. It has been coming fast and heavy, but since last writing I've gone to the colonrectal forum and it seems there is hope if she can understand there is HOPE and will fight, but I'm sort of lost as you can tell, but I will know more tomorrow and will decide then what I should do I suppose, but thank you so much for your strong sense in that I will know what to do. It is very, very helpful.0 -
DEAR NIKKERS
This must be a total nightmare for you and your family. I literally have tears this morning just thinking of your niece, her husband, her young child, your brother - what all of you must be going through. And I know being long-distance must be difficult for you and hard to ask questions. But I was just wondering about the doctor's assessment that 'apparently she has a large mass blocking her colon and it is too far up for them to treat'. Have they actually seen something or are they assuming that because she couldn't hold down the prep fluid? I know first hand that it would be an indication, but without conclusive tests I guess I would just wonder on what have they based their decision. If I heard news like that I would be immediately seeking a second opinion. But I know everyone has to do what they think is right.
Please know that I continue to pray for your niece and all of you. My heart goes out to you. God Bless.
