How far do you drive for your treatments?
I drive about 1 1/2 hrs to get to my treatments, appts, etc. (and, of course, 1 1/2 hrs. back home) - and it is totally worth it to be at the place that I am at! Plus - it's all country driving, so, actually, very relaxing (unless the roads are icy or something!)

20 - 30 minutes
Finished both sets of chemo and rads, but it was 20 - 30 mins in decent weather. Started in the late summer, fall and throughout the winter, so depending on the amount of snow/ice it could take longer to get there. Wasn't any real problem getting there as Son bought me a Bronco II to replace my 2X4 GMC Sonoma plus I have a 3/4t Dodge 4X4. (Bronco is a lot more fun to drive most of the time as he flips in and out of parking lots and such but I NEED big Dodge for doing 'horse stuff'.)
I had to go to Ft. Meade for my Nuelasta shots which is about an hour to an hour 1/4 away in Sturgis (infamous for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally).0 -
Depends on traffic and time of day
Good day ... no traffic .... 35 minutes. However, the longest I think has been 1 hour 20 minutes. Try to schedule treatments outside rush hour, but it seems we hit it either coming or going. Oh well, love my doctor and have the treatments there too. Have a great weekend everyone!0 -
Best decision I ever madecamsgram said:I only have to drive 5
I only have to drive 5 minutes!!!! I love it
I'm very lucky to live a 10-minute drive from a large hospital (West Hills Hospital, for anyone local) and cluster of medical buildings. After my diagnosis, my OB/GYN first recommended a surgeon about a half-hour away, and some of my friends pushed me to go to UCLA or USC, which would have been up to an hour each way.
Once I got into chemo, with at least one appointment every single week for months, feeling like crap most of the time, then rads every day, I realized that the best decision I ever made -- for me -- was to keep everything at West Hills. My oncologist, surgeon, and OB/GYN are all in the same building across the street from the hospital, my primary care physician is next door, and the radiation center next door to that.
I read about so many of you driving an hour or two each way every day for rads, and thought it would be so easy for me -- but even such a short drive every darn day really wore me out by the end.

2.5 hours
I drive to the city and I live in a rural area. It's interstate all the way, lots of trucks and construction.
Taking more like 3 hrs this summer b/c of all the traffic and construction. Wouldn't have it any other way, though. Staying where I am for treatment would not be good.0 -

I'm 70 miles from the facility where I get treatments & doctor visits. Speed limits, traffic, construction, etc...we never can make it in less than 90 minutes one way. Fortunately, our daughter lives in the city, so we usually plan to see her on the same day & hang out with the grandsons. When/if (probably when) I have to have rads, we will make some sort of an arrangement so we don't have to drive back and forth daily. Daughter's home has a bedroom and full bath "just for us", so I know we can stay there.0 -

Another reason I realize I'm lucky -- about 10 minutes.0 -
I work in the hosp where I
I work in the hosp where I had my surgery and where the cancer center is. They schudule my Herceptin treatments for after work. So I trip downstairs to get mine. It's nice cause I'm already there. I work in surgery and the cancer center is directly below me. I very lucky. If I do drive it's about 10mins. Katz0 -
90 minutes but I am out ofheidijez said:about an hour
depending on traffic, it's about an hour from home, but only ten minutes from work. i chose this facility for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the choice of an exceptional surgeon and the proximity to my job
90 minutes but I am out of treatment now, except for twice a year zometa!0 -
My surgeon and plasticladyg said:WOW
I thought I had a long drive but mine is only 35-40 minutes each way.
My surgeon and plastic surgeon have both moved in the past five years to a facility 5 minutes away, so this was a real blessing after my mastectomy and reconstruction. My other doctors are about 20 - 30 minutes away: the advantages of being in the suburb of a small city.

St. Joseph's Hospital .. within 1 mile from each other. However, I drive about 32 miles door to door. Normally a 45 min to 1 1/2 drive - depending on the time of day .. Aaah - Southern California living.
