We had our appointment with Oncologist on Tuesday to review most recent scan. He said there is no indication of a recurrence of the esophageal cancer...YEA! However, the scan does show some nodules in the lungs that he said were typically a residual of bronchitis or pneumonia but because they were also noted in the previous scan he is referring us to a pulmonary specialist for additional testing-he is just being hyper cautious which we both appreciate even if it does cause a bit of stress waiting for all clear bell to ring.

    William, I so agree!!!

    Sometimes when you join this party late-so to speak- it is hard to follow who everyone is and where they are in this EC journey, dance with devil, the beast, roller coaster from hell whatever you want to call it.

    I wish there was a way to click on the person and review their posts by date.

    Please forgive delay in reponse but yesterday was one of "those days". My husband is the EC survivor.

    The diagnosis process was a bit bizarre-he had a TIA(mini stroke) in Oct 2008 and seemed to be recovering pretty well so we were taking a walk with our dog and all of a sudden he fell flat on his face without a word-I thought he had a massive stroke but turns out he stepped into pothole and catapulted himself into the ground. He went to Dr and had a couple of cracked ribs but as time went on the pain got worse. He kept going back to Dr and they thought he had pleurisy so they prescribed antibiotics. Time continued to move on and he developed difficulty swallowing so back to the Dr. again, this time Dr referred for endoscopy and the rest, as they say is history. We now say the fall was the best thing that ever happened to us; otherwise, I suspect it would have been too late.

    Stage was T3N1M0 diagnosed in March of 2009. He has had chemo, radiation and the Ivor Lewis surgery on Sept of 2009. Unhappily, I did not find this board until May when I was doing research for my father in law who was diagnosed with lung cancer (he passed away Oct 14 while we were en route to see him)so did not know about the MIE until well after the fact. The recovery from surgery was brutal but he was determined to re claim his life. He has to have surgery on Tuesday to repair ventral hernia (common side effect of the surgery) so we are hoping this will be the last medical event for a good long time. To further complicate matters he was also diagnosed with CLL in 1999 and although asymptomatic the Dr's monitor him very closely.

    Like the majority of the posters I am aghast at the lack of awareness of EC my husband was the poster child of contributing factors; overweight, smoker, forever history of heart burn etc but did anyone ever do test??? No, they prescribed antacids....I go balistic every time I see advertisement for prevacid, Gas-x etc want to scream go get tested!!!

    I of course am anxious about the nodules as well but am hopeful as you say it is just a blip on the radar.
