Just got my PEG installed; what a nightmare!

It is eight hours later & I am doing fine - a little discomfort at the site as the pain meds are wearing off. Still have the bag until tommorrow morning - have cleaned it twice. Cannot wait until I can eat & drink! I was impressed with the "low profile" nature of the device. I had envisioned something larger. This was quite a day for me! Had my 6th radiation treatment at 8:30am followed by my 1st infusion of Ebritux at 9am
    (my hearing loss intensifed with Cisplatin from last Monday's 1st chemo treatment so we switched to Ebritux). I am pulling for your Giants big time! Tough to root for the Mariners here until we change management. My thoughts & prayers to your own victory!

    FWIW, I had very intense pains also the first day or two after the PEG went in and found it was gas trapped as well. I then learned to open the PEG over the bathroom basin and the gas would escape and I was fine.

    Thought I was dying when that pain hit so I know what you mean Bob. Freaked the techies out as I had mine installed in week 3. Got a free dose of Pneumonia as well. Constant party...NOT.

    Hope all is going OK for you both now.

    The bandage is sold at local drugstores. They come in a box of 5?. Made by nexcare. Totally great. Waterproof and breatheable at the smae time. So you are able to heal and leave it on. You will only need it for a short amount of time..

    Glad to hear you're not having issues with yours. Really glad to hear you're pulling for the Giants. Game's at 7:30 Eastern (4:30 Giants time). Best of luck with your treatment. I've lost some hearing from the Cisplatin and have ringing and still some to go. I'll be able to hear the game today just fine though.

    It's getting a little better each day. Exercise would help but doubles me over pretty fast so far. I've got an appt. with the PEG doc tomorrow to make sure it's all good as it's still fairly uncomfortable. Figuring out what to eat is a hassle as everything aggravates the stomach and causes gas and cramping. Basil, fennel, peppermint, ginger tea is keeping things stable though. Raw fruits and veggies are so not ok right now. Big disappointment. Keeping strong with oatmeal and gentle soups. Pneumonia in the middle of all this would sure suck. I'd just come off a 40 mile backpacking trip and was feeling better than ever 2 days prior to the surgery. Now just 1 week later I'm almost as low as the lowest chemo point. The setbacks are bothersome. And still; life is pretty good overall.

    Great game! A little tough watching Lincecum pitch for the Giants - he went to high school about 20 miles from my home. Mariners passed on him unfortunately. My hearing improved from last week slightly - the ringing level decreased a bit (back to where it was prior to my Cisplatin treatment I think). Good news! Peg tube is doing great also. I am just fine as long as I do not move (I would laugh but it hurts!)- quite painful getting in & out of the car. Driving the Suburban is easier as it sits higher than my car. Had to have my 4 year old grandson put on my shoes & socks this morning! Will update my pain meds in the morning. Have had only 7 radiation treatments & can tell my ability to swallow will get tougher. Just thankful I did the PEG tube now instead of waiting to see if I needed it or not. Giants in 6!!
