Hi to everyone kind here....,
Im very tensed for last 7-8 months as my father's lungs are getting filled with pleural fluid contineously,we have been going for aspirations that is getting this pleural fluid removed by various means like chest tube and syringe. In june 2010 we were informed that it is tuberculosis and tuberculosis ATT (Anti tuberculosis)medicines were started, gradually his pleural formation got reduced and we got him back home only to know in a months time that the fluid formation has started again, after which regular first line treatment even steroids were given but he did not respond to these medicines, after repetitive aspirations, blood tests, pleural fluid tests,biopsies,CT,X-rays,endoscopy,all the test were negetive for malignancy. But since he started feeling breathlessness due to fluid getting filled in the lungs, he was again hospitalized on 12 October 2010.On 14th October after a 'CT guided chest FNAC right lung'test the following report was given -

"MGG stained cytosmear shows either scattered or small sheets and clusters of mild pleomorphic (? mesothelial) cells ,and smudged cells, overall cytomorphology is suggestive of mesothelioma (d/d low grade adenocarcinoma)"

I was a little confused but doctors were happy, specially the chest specialist who got rid of this nondiagnosed case and sent us to an oncologist, who started giving my father Geftinat Tablets (Chemotherapy) and asked us to wait for 15 days,at this time the right lung was filled with fluid and there were loculli formed with air and water intact,so they have put a chest tube, they asperated the left side with a syringe,....
Now besides allopathy I have started other therapies since my doctor without knowing the stage told me he might just have 3-4 months.....today its been 7 days of cancer treatment but the water formation is not stopping now Im not understanding what the disease is and how to stop this pleural formation, after the chest tube was inserted on the right side, blood red pleural fluid was coming out for 3-4 day now after 7 days the colour has changed to yellow again but Im not sure if this fluid formation will stop after 7-8 more days.......which is very important for me.
My question to all the friends is
- have you come across, heard or can find out what this disease can be....
- what should I try to stop this pleural fluid
- How to find out his stage........
Kindly reply.......

    Welcome Sooraj,
    It sounds

    Welcome Sooraj,

It sounds like your dad has the same diesease as my dad.

My dad has Peritoneal Mesothelioma. It is a cancer of the lining of the lung.

My dads right lung was filling up with fluid. He had alot of shortness of breath and a bad cough. He had surgery to test and remove fluid and insert a talc to stop fluid from building up. He also had a chest tube so fluid could be drained.

It was confirmed that the disease that he has is Mesothelioma.

We found a thoracic surgeon who specializes in Mesothelioma. (If you need her name, I will be glad to give it to you). Not many doctors specialize in Mesothelioma that is why it is important to see someone that really knows about it.

The thoracic doctor suggested that he start chemo (4 rounds - Cisplatin & Pemetrexed where the drugs used). The idea of the chemo was to skrink the tumor. He had 2 rounds of chemo and she stopped it because it was not working.

She decided that surgery would be the next step. She discussed taking out the whole lung if needed, the lining and parts of the diaphram. He went in for surgery and it was inoperable. The tumor was too large. She said that it was plastered to his ribs, intertwined and that surgery would not have been successful.

Next step was to start him on radiation therapy. There is no cure. The idea of radiation is to slow the tumor down from growing. They set him up of 25 treatments of radiation. He is getting the most radiation a person can get. He has 2 more left after today and they will order a kat scan or mri not sure in about one month to see how things look.

I hope this information is helpful to you and your dad.

    Stay Strong.

    Regards,

secondly I don't know how much will we succeed but in India people do use Ayurveda and naturopathy for cancer and its quite successful....give him wheat grass juice empty stomach in the morning at 7 and evening at 5....it works in every cancer,a cup of water and a 3-4 cm diameter bunch of wheat grass,...:) that is all I could measure, put it in the juicer, and give within 5 mins..I have started and he seems better....I have still not seen the result myself as I have just started 7 days back but telling you so that you don't get delayed as in any case it is harmless...and since ages naturopaths in India claim that it cures cancer.

    Mesothelioma

I agree with onemore....sounds like Mesothelioma. You really need to find a Mesothelioma doctor.
Your family doctor or surgeon doesn't know how to treat or diagnose this disease.
Meso doctors can give you a staging and let you know if your father is a candidate for surgery.
It was thought that my brother also had TB.....Mesothelioma spreads very fast and needs to be treated right away for the best outcome.

Mesothelioma is a lung disease that most often results from exposure to aspestos. Your father was probably exposed 30 to 40 years ago ??????
Keep in touch and keep the faith.

    Hi Sooraj,

You should really think about taking your dad to a doctor who specializes in this disease so they can stage him and get him the right medical care he needs.

Any questions I would be glad to help.

    Surviving at stage IV
Hi Sooraj, you asked about a cure at stage IV, I haven't seen one yet, but you do see many long-term survivors. Your father could be one. As people have suggested, but probably not available in India, a doctor that specializes in mesothelioma. It is not rare, but like some other lung cancers, should be seen by a specialist. Wishing you the best. Take care, JC
