Hi Sue and Joann,

I want to find out what type of lung cancer you were dx with. I just had the vats procedure on 9-23, to remove a 11mmx9mm lung nodule and am back home today. The pathology says squamous cell, so that is the same as what the anal cancer was, but, they still have to determine if it was a metasis, or a primary lung cancer. Of course I'm praying for a primary lung cancer, as they removed the entire lobe, and there were negative margins. Any thoughts would be appreciated, and it was nice to hear from you Sue, and Joann it woould be nice to hear from you. Lori

    Hi Lori--
I'm glad to hear you are back home and I hope your doctors will make a determination soon as to whether this was a primary cancer or mets. How is your recovery going? I hope you are feeling okay and progressing well. Please keep us posted.

Hi Martha, I will have the pathology by Tuesday. I'm actually recovering pretty well, I have all the necessary meds, and the Vats along with the Davinci Robot were used so, this is the least invasive surgery. lori

    Lori, I didn't know
Lori, not sure if I missed your posts along the way. I didn't know you had the lung surgery. I hope you ae doing well. Did the nodule pop up all of a sudden or was it something they had been watching?

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I'll keep you in my prayers.

    Hi Liz,
The nodule popped up on the 5-11 Pet/CT scan. It was a 7mmx8mm lower right lobe nodule, abutting the major fissure. At the follow up CT scan on 8-11, it had grown to 11mmx9mm, and the tumor board decided they wanted it out. I had it removed on 9-23, and I was home by 9-26, as I had the entire lobe removed. Its amazing that they could remove a lobe and send you home a ocuple days later. I actually feel better every day. Lori

    Hey Lori
I had the VATS procedure for a biopsy of the thickening in the pleura of my left lung. It confirmed that it was metastasis of the original anal cancer. Surgery was not an option for me because it was in the lining and not the lung. I am glad that you were a candidate for surgery as that is certainly the most curative option. Glad to hear that you are healing swiftly and hope you continue to improve daily.
    Blessings,
    Joanne

Hi Joanne, Thank you for replying, for some reason I thought you had a tumor and they took it out along with biopsying the plurea. I see on your other post where you have completed your last tx and will be going for a ct. I pray that everything is clear and the tx has removed all of the cancer cells. I will be praying for both of us. Lori

Hi everybody, My dr called today and told me I had a primary lung cancer. Now the way they checked for metasis was to determine if the HPV virus was present, in which it wasn't. The lymph nodes were benign also. Now the dr said because when he did the wedge rescection for biopsy there were already clear margins, and that because they removed the whole lobe, that this was a curative procedure, and that all that needs to be done now is moniter me with the pet/ct scans, in which I was having anyway due to the anal cancer. Its funny to say good news and lung cancer in the same sentence. To say the least I'm relieved. I hope everyone is healing well, and I feel greatful to have hope that I will now be okay. Lori

    Hi Lori
I am so happy for you although I wish you didn't have to go through any of it. This is good news that your doctors feel your surgery is curative! Take care and keep us updated.

    Lung Nodule
    Hi Everybody,

I had my vats post op with the oncologist, and the NCCN guidelines state there is 0 benefit to have adjuc chemo post surgery. Since the stage was 1a NO and a primary lung cancer and removed via lobectomy, I will just be monitered with the cat scan every 3 months. Also the 5year survival rate is 80%. I asked the dr why I developed the cancer and he said it was a smoking cancer, in which I did smoke for 35 years and quit 5-4-09, when I was dx with the anal cancer. I never would have had pet/cts if it were not for the anal cancer. Of course I wish I never had the anal cancer, I guess I'm looking at the glass half full. Lori

    Wow, Lori
What a lot to go through! I am glad you have been treated and are doing well. May all those f/u PETs and CTs show nothing further.

All you are in my thoughts and prayers.
