Small Cell Lung Cancer Extensive Stage

Hi everyone! My mother has concluded round two of chemo for sclc - extensive stage. She will start radiation in two weeks (about the time round three starts). The radiation oncologist said that she may have a fighting chance, the "main" oncologist is sticking to his prognosis of 12 mos! I need a realistic time table. I know that every patient is different, everything is different, and no one can give me a real idea of where we are going from here, but has anyone gone through this and what are the real chances of recovery?

i can give you what the
i can give you what the stats and studies show OR I can point to other small cell lung survivors with their stories who didnt fall into the Dr's expectations for a particular type and stage. I think i know what option you would like to focus on.
survivors speak of lung cancer and small cell lung as well in the forum below.

guessing the future
I need a realistic timetable, too! That's the one thing we caregivers don't get, so we have to guess at the future. I'm caring for my mother who has advanced ovarian cancer, and now she is receiving salvage chemo. She has two more rounds of carbocisplatin, and after that I'm anticipating a rapid decline. The cancer is already breathing fire between chemos. When the carbo ends (8 is the limit), the fight will probably be over.
Is there a nurse at one of your mother's oncologists who you can talk with? Sounds to me like the chemo and radiation may buy some time, but when the treatments max out she may be in trouble.0
