I was a 17 year breast cancer free and clear, and then the unthinkable happened. I went for my yearly check up and the Dr. told me you don't have to see me no more. She said that's a good thing you will be seeing my PA, i was like okay. Then a week later the nurse called me and said your no gonna believe this but your cancer markers are up and i need to do some tests and scans... So here i go they couldn't find where it was coming from. So she did some testing and found out that it was 91% breast cancer that metastasis. Once i heard that i said to myself i'm finished. It spread to my L1 vertebre, a dot on my lung, in my stermum, and the lymphodes and the ones near collar bone. So now they started chemo carbo/taxol and zometa once a month and straight taxol once a week ugh i can't believe i'm going through this again. I feel different then last with the hope and the fight. Please someone give me the strenght to deal with this again....Dee

    So much has changed in 17
    So much has changed in 17 years. You can get through this, you have done it before and you CAN do it again. I am new to these boards and fighting inflammatory bc (IBC) myself. Keep your chin up and your thoughts positive.

    You are not done, you are not doomed. Someone is going to coming swooping in here any moment with mets now Dee, and give you more courage. In the meantime, I'll give you mine, plus some strength, tons of hope, and many, many prayers going up just for you.

    Lean on us....that's what we are for, and so many of us that we don't feel the pressure at all!

    YES, your a warrior!!
    I'm sending you my courage too, and I will pray for you, just one of many prayers on your behalf. I think it's probably much easier than when you did it 17 yrs. ago, they have learned alot, and I am gratefull for the gift to science that so many have given unintenionally by suviving treatments for bc in past years. They know more now about what works and how to ease the pain and side effects of treatment etc.etc. God bless you, keep us posted, love and hugs...alison

    Of course you can
    do this. And it's simply gotta be easier than 17 years ago. So fight fight fight. That's the pep talk part.

    The humanity part of my message to you is welcome, and I'm so sorry you got this news. We're here and we'll wait with you and hold your hand through the scary stuff.

    I agree, so much has changed in 17 years and you can fight this. This beast doesn't like to go with the statistics does it? After 17 years, I would have thought, like you, that I was in the clear.

    Yes, you can fight this Dee.
    Yes, you can fight this Dee. There are several on here now with mets fighting as hard as they can, Meena, BJmom, Mama G and many that have had bc 2 and 3 times and are living full, healthy and amazing lives.

    Never give up! You can and you will win!

    Obviously your a fighter. And we are all with you all the way. Technology has come along way since you fought this the first time. You can do it again. Never give up that is not a option. Anything you need we are here for you. always. Just holler anytime. Take care and stay strong. Kay

    and fight like a girl. I can only imagine how hard it must be to fight this yet again but you did it once and you can do it again. There are so many people on this discussion board to give you support and encouragement. We are a safe place to fall.

    So very sorry for the news you've just received, but it sounds as though your doctor is being very aggressive with your treatment. I have a similar diagnosis but it's not a recurrence - original diagnosis in February 2010. The Zometa will certainly work on 2 fronts, one to stop the cancer and the other to strengthen the bones. The Carbo/Taxol will destroy the cancer as well. My first line of treatment was Taxol, Herceptin, and Zometa. I want you to KNOW that I had very good results, very quickly from this combination.

    As for the lymphnodes near the collar bone, those were among my VERY FIRST areas to respond in a positive way to the treatments. BELIEVE that this will be the case for you as well. This is the area that my onc is constantly checking - easily accessible, and very important to watch.

    As you embark on your treatments, be sure to stay hopeful and positive that this will work for you. Truthfully, I can tell you that I was never afraid to have the chemo, in fact, that was the first time after diagnosis that I FELT ENCOURAGED. I became the aggressor, I was on the attack! Chemo is certainly not a "walk in the park" but you must look at the big picture - it will kill the cancer.

    that after 17 years the beast is attacking you again. You beat it once and you can do it again! I am sure there are more and better treatments this time so don't give up. I will keep you in my thoughts.

    But like others have said...there is so much they can do now days! And new treatments keep coming up all the time! It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings, and dear pink sister, the fat lady hasn't even begun to warm up yet! So...keep positive, keep fighting and keep praying! You have a lot of livin' to do! And you CAN and WILL get through it!!!

There are many ladies on here that are fighting recurrences and mets and they will be chiming, if they haven't already, to tell you their stories and in support of your diagnosis. I have not walked this path and all that I can say is that you fought this once and you will again and that I will keep you in my prayers and good thoughts.

    It is always sad to read of another sister having a recurrence, but, we all know it can happen. Like so many have written, you beat it once, you will do it this time too.

    I'm so sorry to hear that you are having to battle this beast again, but it can be done. I'm also stage IV with mets to multiple bone, not a recurrance. I agree with Marsha in saying that between the chemo combo and the Zometa you will be having you should begin to feel better very quickly. I didn't have the same combo, mine was Taxotere and Cytoxin along with the Zometa. I had my first PET done after round 4. The PET revealed only one hot spot on my left illiac! That was amazing since I had 9 other spots prior to treatment. With the exeption of the chemo fatigue I truly felt better and looked better than I did before treatment.

    Dee, my story is similar. I had gone 22 years when I was found to have bone mets. I have been in treatment for the mets since April 2009. Just to give you strength and hope, I am now doing well. Completed radiation in 2009 and have been on arimidex and zometa since (ER+ tumor). You are in my thoughts and prayers. But you will do it because you have the strength of all of your warrior sisters propelling you on. We are with you!
