What a year this has been... ...

Hello to everyone. I haven't been on here for a while. Hope everyone is doing okay.

This has been one hell of a year since March. I was diagnosed in March. I lost my job end of May and I am still looking for a job right now. My original doctor would not do anything because I do not have insurance. So I decided that it was risky but I would just have to find a job wait till after I started working and have the surgery. I was on prescription that I was told would possibly stop the cancer cells growing/producing whatever.

About 2 months ago one of my older sorority sisters whom I found out is an Oncologist nurse found out I had cancer and put me in touch with a friend of hers who is Assist Dean of Gynecology Onc. Department at a major University here. The same day I was to see him, I had an appt with my original doctor to get my prescription refilled at a public assistance clinic. I could not go to the Cancer center because no insurance. While there he bought up something about IUD. I had to ask him what he was talking about.

That was my last straw with the original doctor. While walking out I called my sorority sister and she basically summed up that he was not listening to what my concerns are and he is bringing up information that was never talked about originally.

So I went to the new doctor he reviewed my original chart. He looked at me from this point as if I never been to a GYN/ONC doctor. He performed a biopsy that day and the next week, he confirmed that I had Uterine Cancer and what should happen from this point. I have been counting down for 5 weeks so this Friday I will have a total laparoscopic hysterectomy, which is being done with the "da Vinci". I am not scared about going into surgery; I am scared for what will happen afterwards (pain and mentally).

I am a single /34/ no children/ no job/ living with my mother and through all of this I think I have had a positive outlook on everything. I have my days where I am down, but overall okay.

    I'm so sorry to hear everything you have been through. I can relate on many levels as I am 30 and have no children. I was diagnosed at the end of June and had a da vinci procedure as well.

    The recovery time is much faster than a typical procedure but it is still painful. I had a radical hysterectomy and lymph node biopsies. It sounds like you found a good doctor that is moving forward with treatment.

    I can tell you as someone that has been through the surgery and 3 months of recovery that it does get better. You are absolutely right that we all have our days when we are down but its only natural considering everything we have been through.

    Use this blog. I have gotten so much helpful information that has helped me get through. I did not need chemo or radiation but the healing takes times. Honestly, the emotional one takes much longer than the physical.

    I will be thinking of you on friday as you go into surgery. Know that everyone on here has been right there. After surgery you will just know more about the stage etc. which should help relieve some stress.

    Stay positive and surround yourself by those who love you and can support you through this.

    You have certainly been through lots of challenges and I am so happy to hear that you are now connected with a facility that will make sure you are taken care of! What a huge blessing that is!

    The DaVinci surgery is very easy to recover from...the hard part was remembering not to over do as the body still has to heal internally!

    Please keep us posted on the outcome and the plan....we are here to help you in any way that we can!

    Continue with that postive attitude....it will make a world of difference!

    I am sending sunshine and prayers your way for a great surgery and a speedy recovery. I am 30 years old with no children. So I can symthozie with you there. My surgery is scheduled for November 11th. Right now I have been running all over trying to get all the preop done. I am not a candiate for the Da Vanci procerdure. I am very scared for the surgery and the recovery. I have been trying to keep a positive outlook but it has been hard. One of the things that has helped me is being on this site and knowing I am not alone. My surgery too will be at a University Hospital in the Chicago area. I wish you the best of luck with yours and I will be keeping you in my thoughts on Friday.

    A FRIEND RECENTLY PASSED THIS ADVISE ON TO ME SO I AM GOING TO SHARE IT WITH YOU AS WELL.
    SHE SAID WHEN EVER I WAS HAVING ONE OF THOSE DAYS TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH LOOK AT EITHER THE SUNSHINE OR THE STARS AND BELT OUT YOUR FAV SONG. IT MAY NOT SEEM LIKE IT WOULD HELP BUT ONE OF MY FAV SONGS IS BENNY AND THE JETS! THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO STOP RIGHT WHERE I WAS AND START SINGING IT TO STOP BY SELF FROM CRYING! IT WAS SO FUNNY THAT I WAS STANDING THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF A PUBLIC PARKING LOT SING TO THE STARS ALL THESE PEOPLE JUST KEPT WALKING BY AND LOOKING AT ME LIKE THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG, BUT A FEW JOINED IN. SURE MADE ME FEEL BETTER!
