Tampa Bay Flounder Fishing ~ Awesome Day of Fishing
On my expressions page, you'll find the results of an awesome day of Flounder fishing I had this past Saturday 2 OCT 2010....
Bay Flounder
The soft plastic lure in the photo is actually a decoy...I can't share that on my fishing forums that I have also posted this photo on, LOL...my real bait of choice for you guys/gals was actually the DOA CAL Curl Tails, made and produced by a good friend and also a recent H&N Cancer Survivor that I hold in high regard.
Best,
John

Congrats John on a great day of fishing. Are you sure that it was such a good day....cause it sounds like you were floundering around alot; I'm sorry, I just got lured into that one........
I can't agree more about the therapeutic value of doing the things that you love, especially outdoor, nature related activities. Fish on!

If I were to plan a trip to Tampa what would be the best time of year to do it. I had a really good time a year or so ago fishing on a charter boat.
I am afraid to eat anything that come out of the water here in Louisiana right now and Can’t let you have all the fun and get all the fish.0 -

Depending on what you are wanting to catch, pretty much anytime.
There's different seasons and limits depending on what you are targeting. If it's not the extremes of winter (which is not long and you can fish for Crappie (Specks) then, or super hot water of summer.
Spring and Fall are usually best because of mild temperatures, availability of bait, etc....
So mainly it all depends on what you are targeting. Deep Sea boats go out all of the time. But there are only certain times you can keep Red Snapper, or Gag Grouper for instances.
Give me a little more specifics and I'll be glad to get you any information.
Of course you can always go out with me, but I'm limited to primarily bay fishing. But as you can see, that's not very limited..LOL.
I mainly fish week-ends, but can slide a day off during the week usually with a little advance notice.
Best,

John, what a great way to get away from the C mess! Last year when I finished my chemo and radiation, I went out in bow season and got a 6 point buck. Not as large as I normally go for but was my statement that I was back!0 -
Cool
Saw your boat and fish picture on Facebook will check out your pics here.0 -

Great Catch! Glad you had such a successful day.
Reminds me of a wise old fisherman who once told me - "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat drinking beer all day".
Keep your line tight!

I am just in the planning stage right now on next years Vacation, and Tampa is a great place to do just that, I will let you know. Yes from the pictures I have seen your bay fishing looks more like my offshore fishing, I will let you know and may be we can get a trip in.
Take care my friend0 -
Tampa
Hi John,
I too am in Tampa, but no fishing for me. We are with my mom in law and at Moffitt with her. On Friday we go to Key West then on Monday we fly back home to Cal.We have a lot of fishermen in our family, one in Perry who fishes for flounder too.

Oh very cool....Moffitt is a very good place. My Cancer Center is also affiliated with Moffitt.
Sounds like you will be busy. I actually live in Lakeland (about 30 miles from Tampa). But Tampa bay is where I do 90% of my week-end fishing...so I'll be there come Saturday, LOL
Key West is pretty cool, I haven't been for a few years, but I love the Island atmosphere...reminds me of how it was when I lived in Hawaii many years ago.
Too bad you aren't here a little longer, would be nice to have lunch or meet.
Best to you, your family and travels.
Stay safe,

John, as I've mentioned before, my husband and I lived in Florida for several years and the one thing that always made me smile was a huge wooden sign hanging over a fishing pier we used to spend a lot of time on. "God does not subtract from man's alloted time on earth the time spent fishing"
I always enjoy your pictures on facebook of your catch each weekend, you and Shelley must eat a lot of fish ;-)

But Shelley has a strategy she doesn't think I've figured out.
She doesn't have a problem with me fishing nearly every week-end as long as I catch fish. If I catch fish, as you know, I clean them and do the cooking of them also.
So, if I'm catching fish, she gets to eat fresh fish, and doesn't have to cook on those days we have fish for dinner.

You know I will always give as good as I get. They only removed my tumor and some lymph nodes, they left my sense of humor in there. They said I was gonna need it. ;-)0 -

You married a very smart little lady...you catch, you clean, you cook. She puts her feet up and relaxes while waiting for her dinner - lol. Love it!!!
