Hi pepe, I am a "mutant" -
Hi pepe, I am a "mutant" - have use Oxaliplatin(eloxatin), 5-FU, Levviovorin (?) Irinotecan, Avastin, then on to trial drugs - Gleevec and Cyclophoshamide and am getting on a new trial next month, but don't know what drugs yet. I had a resection and total hyst., no radiation. Best to you. Jean0 -
I'm a mutant :-)
I'm a mutant. They tested me right after surgery and prior to chemo. FOLFOX only0 -
Mutant
I am mutant. I was tested at dx to see if I qualified for a clinical trial of Erbitux for stage III. Then it turned out they couldn't really say if I was stage III or IV, so I couldn't get into the trial anyway. So we decided not to try. Then my testing came back - mutant. So I wouldn't have qualified. Less options for us mutants...0 -

I have the KRAS mutation too. Mine wasn't discovered, unfortunately, until after I had already been on Erbitux for two months and suffered a horrible acne rash with some scarring for nothing (there goes the theory that if you get the rash badly it means it's working). That was in Nov. 2007 and it was just a month or so away from when it became standard to start testing for KRAS.
Chemos I've had: Folfox; Erbitux/irinotecan/5FU until the KRAS mutation was discovered, then changed to Folfiri w/ Avastin; Xeloda and Avastin for maintenance; Folfiri w/Avastin again; experimental treatment of Lovastatin & Interferon- didn't work- now on Gemzar/Avastin/Xeloda.
Noting that my CEA has been going up the past month and a half again (& it's an accurate measure for me), I'm looking into new things again. Right now, I'm starting myself on several holistic supplements/treatments and started "zapping" a week ago with a low dose electrical unit- not enough time to go into all that right now- will save for another time. I'm always keeping my eyes and ears open for clinical trials and new ideas and treatments.
I put an email in to Dr. Lenz and his assistant at USC in L.A. re. a new trial coming up on a drug that targets the cancer stem cells (there was a C3 article on it this past week). His assistant replied to my email and said they don't know when it will open, but to contact her the end of Oct & they may be close to getting it going then.

Hi Pepe,
I started this protocol in mid March & have now had two scans since- one in mid May and another Aug. 30th. Both pretty much showed things as being stable, but the August one had somewhat mixed results- CT showed the same, PET showed nodules in lungs had less uptake but I have some new areas of metabolic activity in the liver now & also in the rectum. Initially my CEA was dropping each time it was tested, but now it has been rising again the past three times it's been tested. I get CEA drawn again tomorrow when I go in for chemo, so we'll see what it's doing this time. I think it may not be working well for me anymore, but I'll know for sure when I get the next scan, which my onc wants to do the first week of November.
So, I'm wondering what's going to be next now & am pondering ideas. Thanks for asking-
