He is beating the beast..He feels strong so let him continue tobetina61 said:Hi Tina
I think that it is great that your husband is working as long as he feel strong enough, I worked through all my 6 months of chemo.
He will slow down when he needs to. He is in therapy or rehab in his own right now. Let him go for it..Its a man thing !!! LOL..Love to you both.......Clift0 -
Let him work
Of course you know him well and would know if he's over doing it but, if he isn't then let him be. I know that work is a great escape and allows me to focus my mind and let all this other cancer stuff go away for a while. For me, work is good medicine. Maybe it is for him too.0 -
my only good, productive
my only good, productive working days were when I had the 2 days of fanny pack. Once I was unhooked, then I began the decline into, "man I feel like shet days". I say let him work as long as he feels like it cause his resting days are right around the corner.0 -
Tina, just support him! When
Tina, just support him! When he's worn out let him just rest, but it seems we work so hard to be "normal" and tough! You are a great wife to recognize this! You are just what the Dr. ordered!! Best to you both. Jean0 -

The best therapy
Tina,
The best therapy I had after chemo/rad was I cut firewood for the following winter. My doc thinks it did wonders for me. I did crap in my pants once cutting firewood. I seem to have a lot of problems getting crap on me now that I think about it.
I look forward to cutting firewood again this winter after I get my bag removed and my butt reconnected. If we just lay on the couch we croak. It is as simple as that. He will know when to slow down.
Hell, I am 5 weeks post resection and I am going to brush hog with the tractor tomorrow.
I mowed the back yard yesterday.

Working during chemo is one thing, but working, lifting,
or doing strenuous work after a resection, is quite different.
Didn't your doc tell you "no more than 20 lbs", or about
hernias, or adhesions that form when the loose intestine
gets squished around inside that somewhat larger cavity?
Be careful, bub; what you do today can come back to haunt you.

Damn John you scared the hell out of me. Not for driving the tractor but taking the box scraper off and putting the brush hog on. The brush hogging can wait until I talk with the doc next week.

Didn't mean to scare the hellouttaya'... But ya'know..
They kept yelling at me in the hospital, and I wouldn't listen.
I got home and just wanted to do things. Some people on
that UOAA board said that they did all sorts of things after
surgery, and nothing happened!
So..... Now I have some hernias, and adhesions, and other
nifty complications.... none too serious, but I could have
avoided all that by just taking it easy.
For me.... they said it's a life-long thing. Lifting a too heavy
item can pop part of my intestine through a muscle, or push
my remaining intestines (or other organs) down into areas
they don't belong.
When they take out some intestine for a resection, it can leave
a space where there was no space before.
So yeah, if I were you, I'd take it easy until you get the go-ahead.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
Oh.... and stay sane!

I did however have BIL to connect the bush hog up for me. Nothing more than 10# pushing or pulling. Steering is hydraulic and ran bush hog slower than normal but still at 2200 rpm. Low speed 2nd and it does great and doesn't bounce me around much at all. But, I would make sure that you stay in the weight limits. Thats a big problem there waiting to happen if ya don't..........Buzz0 -

Hugs!0 -
Great
I think it is great that he feels so good that he wants to work. If he gets tired he'll know to take it easy. As a caretaker, I think we worry alot about our guys overdoing it. I wanted to keep my husband on the couch and just relaxing, but that's not fair to him. He kept up with his normal activity most of the time. Take care. Margaret0
