    FINGERS
    Vinny,
No, I am not having it as bad as you and I really feel bad you have to go thru all these problems. The only real problems I have had are the tooth impaction which is clearing up for now,but has to be taken care of after the last treatment. The other problem being the tiredness. I am having good and bad days right now. I was full of piss and vinegar yesterday but down some today. I have been following your posts and will ask about your options from my Onc. when I go back for my final,at least I hope final treatment. I know sometimes they can extend them to 8. Just hang in because there are a number of options out there. John

    chest and breathing
    Hi Vinny,
This has got to be the worst feeling there is! I've had 2 different bouts with severe bronchitis in my life, and the not being able to breathe and heavy tight chest was terrifying for me. Both times I landed in the hospital for 5 days having to be on oxygen. My heart goes out to you Vinny and I pray things will turn around for very soon. Always thinking good thoughts for you....Sue

    Hi John,
How many rounds had you received before this fingernail thing started? So far I haven't had anything too weird happen, but I suppose it takes a period of time for the chemo to build up in your system. I do knowtice my skin gets dry as paper and I'm having to lotion down 2 or 3 times a day. Feels like I could grate carrots on my legs...ha! Today I have to get labs done and then Tuesday at 9:30 I get round 2. I'm not nearly as scared for this round and glad the "fear" of the un-known is behind me. Still haven't lost any huge amount of hair, but it's getting brittle and breaking off a little more each day. Well...I better throw on some make-up and go get that lab work done. Have a good weekend....Sue

    FINGERNAILS
    Sue,
I am a nail biter anyway so I would have been aware of the fingernail thing as soon as it started. I started to notice it after round 4. It got more brittle each day it seemed. They feel dry as sand. I do have some white patches on my forearms which is just dryness. You know when you rub it turns to dust and flakes. My hair never really all fell out but it is really, really thin. It still falls out every day a little at a time. I have heard that r-cvp sometimes will not take it all out like r-chop. I don't know how long it will take before it starts to regrow. I don't know if it starts out as baby hair or what. I am sure others can help out on that question. Well good luck with the lab work and let us know how it goes. Hope everything is in the high range. John

The nails take a beating and I already talked about losing my toenails! They are all good now. Glad to hear you are hanging in there John. The ups and downs are normal. You pay for the "piss and vinegar" days. Keep doing well and God bless. Mary

    Oh Vinny!!
Sad to hear that it is rough for you right now. The breathing thing must be so hard. Is there anything they can do to help you with that? Just keep in mind that you are having the extended version with the eight treatments and hats off to you! I finished treatment#6 just about on my knees. When is the final? Mary

    Hi Mary,
I won't get my lab results until Tuesday when I see my doctor right before my 2nd treatment. I can't imagine there's been any change..(labs) since the 7th because I have felt just fine. Yes...being a little nervous is one thing...(which we all feel)before a treatment, but being so full of fear you can hardly breathe is another thing all together. I suppose everyone gets scared witless with the first round. Anyways...I'm heading into this 2nd one with a much better frame of mind. You have a good weekend also...sorry your 6th treatment knocked you down so hard. Rest and be peaceful, thats what we are doing this weekend. Love....Sue

    Mary,
Oh yes, Every time I notice something different I think of that movie Jeff Goldbloom played in called "The Fly". He sees something different and he says, "OOH,Whats this?" Especially when his nails started falling off. He said it again when he noticed his hair coming out in clumps. Eventually he was a full blown fly with constant enery. At least that won't happen to us????????buzz buzz buzz. Just got to get a little humor in there even though it is not funny by a long shot. John

    Last and tired
Vinny, I understand completely how wiped out you are. I couldn't really even walk very far without being winded and choices became vital to me. If it was close by i got it, if it was at the other end of the house....didn't need it that bad.

Hang in there friend, the light at the end of the tunnel is within reach! It's going to be ok. I cannot imagine they will to the SCT too soon. They'll have to have you gain strength.

    You are a true warrior!
    Take care,
    Beth
