Blood Clots around the port

Has anyone had any issue with this? How do you avoid it? My mother was put on Cumodin (?) if there is any suggestion or comments anyone has to add they would greatly be appreciated.

    I think coumadin is the standard treatment, a blood thinner, for all type of clots. It's easily managed with regular monitoring. Is your mother having discomfort, or is the port malfunctioning? Duh, Mom found that her port worked fine when she leaned forward, but would not be suctioned when she was sitting upright. Big discovery after a special trip to the hospital.

    MY mom's port became clogged also . She had it flushed with large dose of heprin and after about 3 weeks it dissolved clot and hopital was able to access it to draw blood for tests.
