Hi John,
Just checking in to see how round 5 went for you. I can hardly believe you are nearing the end of your treatments. It just shows how fast time "really" goes by, which makes me stop and remember that my time will move equally as fast. The waiting between rounds is hard, as all I want is to get this all behind me...patience, patience, patience, I try to keep telling myself...ha! Hope you have fairly good energy and your blood counts are doing ok. Always thinking of you, and everyone else....Sue

John devoloped a tooth infection while he was up in Baltimore over the weekend. The last I heard-he is on his way to the dentist office. We are hoping that he will not have to be put in the hospital for heavy doses of antibotics. His face is very swollen and he is in pain. I will update-if he is not able to get on tonight. I Love you Johnny!!!!

    Impacted tooth
    Sue and everybody,
Thanks for the concern. Jaw started to swell on Saturday night. Wasn't too bad until Monday afternnon. Went to local clinic trying to get some antibiotic to help the swelling. Amoxicillen will not do it. Came back from Md to NC today and made it to my dentist. They said it was to much infection to pull the tooth. They gave me penicillin and said it works better than the other. Got some pain pills which I will need. They also told me that chemo has a tendency to destroy teeth. Ain't that great? I said I knew it could cause mouth sores, but not tooth problems. They assured me it can and in a lot of cases it does. They said they see it everyday. I will keep everyone updated and thanks again for the concern. John
Oh yea, Thanks to my sister for posting. She was one of the ones I was visiting. Actually went to Md. for granddaughters 1st birthday party.

    Tooth problems
    Hi John,
Sorry to hear about the tooth problem. What a pain! I wish you a speedy recovery.
I have also had tooth issues,I was told that the rads really would mess with my teeth. Always had great teeth and very few cavities. Now my teeth break so easy. So, yes chemo and rads mess with your teeth. I don't think there is anyway to prevent problems from happening, just got to be aware.
    Take good care of yourself.

    Bummer!
    Hi John,
So sorry about the tooth...what a bummer! My Chemo nurse told me to brush my teeth 3 times a day with a baking soda paste, and then rinse my mouth with baking soda water each night before going to bed...no toothpaste or mouth wash until my treatments are done. I sure hope she's right, because I've always had very strong healthy teeth and cavity free, from using Crest tooth paste and Pro-Care mouth wash. I was also told to gargle with hot salty water in the morning and once in the evening. Something about the iodine in the salt being good to ward off mouth sores. Feels like all I'm doing is either peeing or brushing my teeth..ha! You have one dandy sister who obviously loves you dearly!! Sure appreciate her letting us know you were having a problem. Take care and get that tooth infection behind you...your on the home stretch now...so there's no time for any road blocks!!!...Keep us posted...Sue

I am so sorry about your teeth. Nothing worse than a tooth ache. I hope by the time you read this message you are feeling much better.

    TOOTH
    Vinny,
Oh yea, a tooth impaction is bad for anybody. Then when they find ot you are on chemo its like they really back away then. I had to go to a clinic up in Md. because I was out of state. It all comes down to money and payments, you know that. As a matter of fact when I walked in they did not ask my name or my reason for being there, they asked who my insurance carrier was. Its all about money like everything else. Here I go getting up on the soapbox again. Anyway, I was told at the walk in clinic they could give me amoxicillin. I told them I have used that and it is useless for me. May as well been talking to the wall. So GOD, I mean the so called Dr. gave me amoxicillin anyway. She even spelled it wrong on the prescription. I got it filled and it did not do anything. Had to come back home and go to local dentist and got penicillin (the real stuff) and in 24 hours the swelling started to go down. It just ticks me off the way some of these Drs. think they know more than you do about your own body, especially when you have been thru it all before. The dentist in NC told me chemo will destroy your teeth over time. It may happen later but it will destroy them at some place in time. Rads are the worse, but chemo is a close second. I was never told this at the Onc. center. The dentist said they have seen it a lot over the years. I know you have it rougher than a lot of us,but all we can do is roll with it until this stuff is in the bag. I read about your problem with your port. They have an answer to everything don't they? Keep us informed with that. John

Hope you are feeling better! Wow this really is like a roller coaster ride isn't it??I had such a great day my rituxan infusion went really well with no side effects and it didn't take 11 hours! But last night I got new side effects, with a red rash, sore throat, etc. Low grade temp today. Had to call the doc...

It seems like we go for a certain amount of time and then hit a wall. We regroup and move on. I thank God every day for each and every one of you. Some days I don't post but I follow all of you and love the support we all give eachother. Non-lymphoma people sometimes just can't relate.

John, I really hope they can get you out of pain and take care of the problem without a big deal. I am so sorry this is happening to you. I also had never heard that chemo can effect your teeth but I had heard about the radiation.

My best to all. Going to take a nap.
