Don't meet the criteria for research trial..now

I had to call my onc. nurse today- as I was due to go in for my CBC before chemo tomorrow. A week or so ago she had called me to see if I wanted to participate in this research trial on a vaccine for OVC- as I met the criteria. However- I wouldn't be able to do my maintenance chemos while in the trial. I had to have a CT scan asap to ascertain that I was still in remission, so she sent the order to the center & we scheduled my CT for last Wed. Tuesday afternoon - the center called me to cancel as they were awaiting authorization from the insurance ( I am currently in a Medicaid plan in Florida). So...its Mon. & I'm scheduled for the chemo tomorrow & have heard from no-one. As I said- I called my nurse this morning...and now I apparently "don't meet the criteria". ??? I don't understand. I have seen no one nor had any tests in the last 10 days...so how is it I met the criteria 10 days ago- but don't now? I am very disappointed- needless to say. But I am also getting a little angry- because I feel that because I am on Medicaid- they don't want to deal with it. Am I just being cranky or has anyone here had any similar experiences? I had to wait 3 hrs one day at my Drs office for my Neumaga shot as my platelets were very low- because they had to wait 3 hrs for a 'yay or nay' from Medicaid. I am very down right now & feel like I'm on the back burner because I am on medicaid.I would gladly love to pay for my old ins.- but I couldn't afford *1100 a month! thanks for letting me vent... things could be much worse. Queenie....this is indeed
Queenie....this is indeed frustrating, I know. Many doctors won't even accept Medicaid because they have to jump thru so many hoops. Medicare is only marginally better. Sometimes it seems as if the insurance companies control the whole world, and all our destinies. If your platelets are too low, you can't have chemo, but you can't get the shot to build up your platelets unless the insurance company approves it. What a frightening, and vulnerable spot to be in!
I'm really sorry you missed the chance to particupate in the trial. I don't know why you were suddenly found to be ineligible, but it wouldn't hurt to ask, "Which criteria did I not meet?"
