No fish for me
Hi Beth,
I didn't even go out in the boat...(too windy). My son and husband decided to do the night fishing after the wind calmed down, but I wasn't about to sit in the boat all night until morning. My daughter in-law brought some games and a couple of movies, so we stayed at the cottage and had our own fun. Friday afternoon we went to the Bingen Huckleberry festival and had a great time, and didn't get back to the cottage until late that night. I kept wondering if the "bus" would show up, but it didn't, so that made me very happy. Feels good to be home though...would much rather be in my home when something like that happens. So far so good for me after the first round...I can only pray the rest of them go this well! Hope everyone else had a good weekend. Thanks for asking Beth
Love....Sue0 -
Hanging in there
Oh, thanks for checking in!!!
Had 2nd chemo last Tues. The bus ran faster on me. But have to take neuroprogen shot daily due to low WBC. I feel two agonizing effects: headaches (feels like my head is pressed hard by the temples) and bone/muscle pain and weakness - must be from the shots as I understand that it helps produce marrow cells. Last night, I could not move at all - my arms feeling like falling off. Now little better as am on Tylenol but not completely helpful.. Anyone find something to help to reduce those effects? Took Vidocan last night to help to sleep - Will check with neurologist tomorrow.
The only good sign is that I am eating like crazy!! The food tastes so GOOD!!!
Hope your healing goes easy on you,
Liz0 -
Staying positive
Hi Beth,
Thanks for checking on all of us. How are you doing.
I am doing better. Still sleeping a lot, but decided that if that is what mt body tells me I need, then I won't feel bad about it and I'll just go with the flow of things.
I did make it to my granddaughters birthday dinner last night. The weather was lovely so we ate out in the garden. Relaxed fun for all.
Hoping that everyone has a good start to the week ahead...

Hey Liz, I am sorry to hear you are feeling rough. I can relate to the headaches as I suffer with them too and also migraines. For the body aches, muscle aches and such I too relate on a personal basis. I have had fibromyalgia for over 10 years now and at times am one miserable lady.
For the headaches, the only thing that really helps me is Hydrocodone. When I went to my neurologist he made me stop aborting the headaches so often cause what I was doing was rebounding them. He would only let me stop them twice a week. I also had to do a headache diary to try to figure out what was triggering them. Avoiding caffeine was high on his list and I had to beg for 1 large cup of coffee a day.....had to fight for the large haha. Gradually I started noticing them improving. At one time I had a migraine 27 out of 30 days. This was after radiation and both my onc and the radiation onc said it had nothing to do with it, but I don't care what they say I know it did. Thank goodness thay are better now.
The muscle aches are another issue. Alot of times weather has a lot to do with it. The same thing can be said with overdoing garden work, house work etc. Muscle relaxers every night at bedtime make a world of difference. Sleep is also critical. Try to go to bed at the same time every night.
Hope it helps and you feel better soon Liz.
Take Care, Beth0 -

Hi Vinny,
I've been wondering how it's going to feel getting that needle poked into my port. It didn't hurt at all on the first round, but the port had just been put in the day before and was left open over night. Now it's all healed over(still black and blue and bruised) and I know they will have to poke through the skin to get to the port hole....UGH! Hopefully the numbing spray will take the worst of the pain away...we will see, a week from this Tuesday! I'm sorry they messed up when going in your port. I'm not buying that crap the nurse said to you..."it happens"...it "SHOULDN'T HAVE" to happen in my opinion. Good luck with your shots on Wednesday...your always in my thoughts and prayers.....Sue0 -

Hey Sue, you will be ok, this was the first time in 7 treatments that I have had a problem, usually it's a little pinch, then no problem! Best wishes Vinny0 -
Well?
Hi -thanks for asking! Tomorrow is actually my 6th and FINAL Chemo and I'm very happy about that! It's been a long summer. Sue - I admire you for getting away- I've been totally isolated at home since June 2 when CVP-R began. My white cell counts are the lowest my office has seen and I DREAD the Neuprogen shots too! They give me headaches which I never have, dizziness, night fevers and I feel really bad for about 4 or 5 days. Don't know how those of you take one daily - I couldn't do that. Have one suggestion - a nurse suggested last Thurs. I take two 500 mg. capsules of Tylenol every six hours just after getting the shot - it was a HUGE help! My symptoms this time were only half as bad as all the other times - give it a try. My counts come down the week after Chemo so guess I'll have one more shot to go through. Then Rituxon infusions every 3 months for 2 years to extend Remission.
God Bless you all and I'm so thankful for this website! Don't know a soul near me with NHL and you're so much help as we travel this journey! Fran0 -

Thanks, Fran for the comments. I will try to increase the muscle relaxants - well, I am kinda confused about which is better - Tylenol or Advil. Advil always work for me. But was told to go to Tylenol then yesterday my nurse said my liver function is normal so I can go to Advil. Whatever I definitely will increase the dosage... I weigh 100 lbs. so I try not to take much if I can help it.
Congrats for getting your last treatment! This sounds so good because I feel this is taking forever for me.
I pray for your positive results

Update
Hi All,
I've been out of pocket for a few days and so much has happened here on the board.
Vinny, how's the port? Many of you have such bad side affects, the headaches, body aches, low wbc - everything. I feel so fortunate. I have had very little problem now through my 2nd infusion. The bus did stop by one night this week, but it didn't stay very long. (At my age I make use of the pain pill whenever I need to. It helped on the bus night. But I don't need it very often, so far.)
Tomorrow (Thursday) we drive down to Houston for my first interim testing at MD Anderson on Friday. Won't have the results until Tuesday, when we will have to drive down again (about 5 hours one way).
And tomorrow is also my 60th birthday. Not exactly one I'm looking forward to, but, like I said, I feel very fortunate. Next infusion is one week from tomorrow. Hope my good luck continues.
Still thinking about y'all and wishing you comfortable days, sleepy nights and remission.

WELL
I am still here but was a little on the down side a few days. Tooth impaction put the brakes on for awhile. Just starting to come back around. I was up in Md. for a few days and did not have a lot of time before the tooth thing. If you go out of state and you are on chemo don't expect to much help from the medical standpoint. Nobody wants to touch us when they hear the word CHEMO. I called for assistence to my Onc. center and was told they could not do anything for me while I was out of state because of some law. I was told to go to the ER if I had any problems. Another rule and regulation that came up when nobody was looking I guess. You will be surprised at how Drs. react when you say you are on chemo. They act scared to death and have no problem telling you there is nothing they can do. I finally had to go to a hole in the wall, behind the adult book store, WALK IN CLINIC to get some pain pills. All I was asked was, Whos your insurance carrier. Then they asked me for photo ID and ins. cards. Finally asked me to sign in. Talking about a nightmare. I came home early just to go to the local dentist.0 -

Thanks, All, for your B-Day well-wishes. Have to admit that this is not the way I wanted to tun 60, and was internally pretty down. But everyone here, my lovely bride, family, friends have been just wonderful and now it's past.
Sue, I live near a town called Grapevine, but have not heard of Grapeland. I am going to google it.
And a BIG happy birthday (early) to you!!! This one carries with it its own baggage, even without the big C, so take it all with care-free abandon and just enjoy the parts you can and ignore the others.
You are absolutely right about our current state of social 'arrest' - but when it comes down to it, our happiness is up to us and no government can change that. (WE can change the government, however, and I'm all for taking it BACK!!!)
God Bless,
Tom0 -

Hi Tom,
I've never been one to fret about the number with each passing b-day, or the wrinkles that come with them...ha! All I've ever cared about was how I felt health wise. This year didn't feel any different than years past, but "surprise surprise"! Ugh! Still throws me for a loop! I am type A and had no symptoms until the groin lump showed up. Sure didn't think that dang lump would end up being indolent F-NHL. Anyways...no big plans for my b-day...hubby will probably cook a nice diner and the kids will bring me over my yearly pie's. Chocolate or banana cream....yum! I'm not much of a cake person unless it's cherry cheesecake. Be sure to let us know the results of your tests after you go back to Houston this week. Have a safe trip and my positive thoughts will be with you.....Sue0
