    What is about family?
My Hubby still eats candies, sweets, cakes and drinks a lot of coffee. It is very difficult to resist, especially when we go out. He also does not have interest in joining GYM, however always accompanies me in hiking and walking. How do you encourge your family members to follow your step in healthy lifestyle?

    I know men in particular
I know men in particular think they are untouchable. I have decided to not have it in the house. I also noticed that my daughters follow what I do. In my life I never realized the importance of my example in this way. I thought I was there to do for them. Anyway I noticed this summer with my daughter putting on the freshman 15 that she watched me change my habits and started to do so herself. My husband will eat what I put in front of him, but then I see him eat junk, so if he wants it he will have to buy it. Also I see he buys all kinds of crummy cereals, but he has to get them himself. but he is getting better about that too. sometimes I feel like I dont take good enough care of him but you can lead a horse to water..... So I have decided where I lead they may follow. nagging does no good.

    Dr. Oz
This was on the Dr. Oz show today:

    See: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/5-foods-starve-cancer

Disturbing new research suggests that microscopic cancer, small cancer cells that can only been seen under a microscope, is widely prevalent. A recent study of women in their 40s indicated that 40% of them had microscopic breast cancer. Even more shocking, almost 100% of people in their 70s will have microscopic cancer in their thyroid glands.

A microscopic tumor can grow up to 16,000 times its original size in as little as 2 weeks. But new groundbreaking research from The Angiogenesis Foundation proposes that you can stop cancer before it begins to grow. This new preventive approach is called anti-angiogenesis. To learn more about anti-angiogenesis and the groundbreaking research at The Angiogenesis Foundation, click here. Anti-angiogenesis encourages that, by changing the way you eat, you can change your “internal environment,” thereby depriving cancer cells the opportunity to grow and multiply.

Certain foods, eaten in the correct portions and frequency, can provide cancer-starving benefits. Below are 5 foods to eat that can prevent cancer growth:

1.Bok Choy This type of Chinese cabbage contains brassinin; a powerful cancer-fighter, also found in broccoli, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Bok Choy should be eaten 3 times a week, in 1/2 cup servings to obtain its full benefits.
2.Cooked Tomatoes have more cancer-fighting properties than raw tomatoes. Both contain the molecule lycopene, but heating the tomato changes its chemical structure and makes the benefits more readily available to your body. You should eat 2-3 (1/2 cup) servings of cooked tomatoes a week.
3.Flounder This fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and low in mercury. Three 6-ounce servings a week is ideal.
4.Strawberries The antioxidants in this berry help fight cancers. You should eat 1 cup a day, including the juice.
5.Artichokes contain 3 different cancer-fighting molecules. Enjoy ¼ cup of hearts per day.

    I watched
this Dr. Oz show too. It was very informative and hopeful.......

    Carkris, same at my house
It's just HubbyDearest and me. He does notice that I'm making healthier choices for myself, and constructing healthier meals for us both. However, he still loads up on junk when he shops. Still, I make healthy alternatives available, and he does quite often choose something good. He quit smoking this past February, then in April, he stopped consuming more than a 6pk a day [plus other drinks], so he's drinking very little now. you're right, nagging does not help at all. I noticed a long time ago that with my husband, nagging only makes him dig his heels in and hold on tighter to the things he knows he should let go of. He knows that good nutrition is a key in protecting his health. Baby steps. These habits didn't develop overnight, and they aren't going to change that quickly either. Carkris, you don't need to feel like you're not taking good enough care of him. As long as you make sure there are healthy choices, it's not your fault if he goes for the junk instead. Hugs. Gracie

Warrior Princess .. Traci, Carkris, CC and Char .. I too have
been on the band wagon looking searching for a better way of eating -- green tea is ok, but I think I'm going to go Traci's way .. and add something to help ease the taste. I shop organic - veggie's fruits and meats - always .. I also have a veggie garden every year .. but, sometimes I just want to get ice cream or lay's potatoe chips .. gone are the days when I drink 3 to 4 Pespi's per day .. and 12 cups of coffee .. giving up 1 bad habit at a time ...

In October 2010 - I will be celebrating 1 year of no cig smoking .. NOW that is something I am so very proud of ...

Glad to hear you liked them!
I like the pomegranate a lot -- didn't care too much for the kiwi-pear. I also like the wild berry, but I think the honey ginseng is my favorite -- it has a strong honey flavor which I like a lot. All decaf flavors, of course.

One thing I've found is that it feels like a lot of work to me to make 1 cup of tea at a time several times a day, so I've started using a 16-oz coffee/travel mug, and making 2 cups at a time. I just fill the mug with hot water, and use 2 tea bags + 2 stevia packets, and let it brew for 10 minutes. Works great, tastes great -- and, if I do that just twice a day, I've hit 4 cups!

    Frozen berries
One of the things the author of Anticancer recommends highly is eating more berries, especially raspberries.

I don't know about other parts of the country, but here in Southern California, fresh berries are EXPENSIVE -- and, every time I do splurge on them, they end up being tasteless or sour.

So the latest big revelation in my life is frozen berries -- who knew? How have I missed these all my life? Much less expensive than fresh, keeps in the freezer for a long time, and I've found the flavor is excellent. I use thawed raspberries in my yogurt, and thawed blueberries on top of my oatmeal -- look at me, I'm getting more fruit in my diet!

    Traci,

    Traci,
I'll let you in on a little secret my daughter shared with me. If you put the frozen berries in while the oatmeal is piping hot they will thaw and cool the oatmeal at the same time. She does this with the child's oatmeal and it works perfectly. Now my hubby does the same. We always have a freezer full of frozen berries and other fruits like mango and peaches. Use them for smoothies, on ice cream, oatmeal, other cereal, yogurt and with cool whip. I never even thought about frozen fruit until my daughter pointed out the convenience and cost effiency of them. And yes, they always taste good and don't spoil. Go fruit!!

great ideas I tend to be a
great ideas I tend to be a "sipper" so its hard to get all the fluids in. I do find that trying to eat "right" has helped me keep my weight down. I get filled up on the good stuff, and cant eat the bad. My husband is starting to respond to my "healthy" eating. I have adopted the philosophy of setting an example rather than nagging. My daughter hates vitamins, but she is on prilosec and needs to take them. I found a gummy type lemon flavored D3 that she will take Yay! Score! she says it tastes good.
Traci I am going to try your tea methods, sometimes I think all this changing is a ton of work, but then I think if I could do the chemo I can do anything, but like the chemo, I couldnt do it perfectly, and all this may take time. I have to say though, if anything, I feel really well doing this.
Any ideas on healthy low sugar desserts?
