Fingernail issues
I know just what you mean! I finished chemo on Jan. 29 and my fingernails and toenails still aren't quite back to normal. The white patches are virtually gone and still have some minor ridges. I even had one nail with a black patch on it. Looked like I slammed my finger in a door. My podiatrist told me it take 9 months for a toenail to completely grow out. With summer and wanting to wear sandals I keep polish on my toenails. The big nails (one of which I nearly lost during chemo) still look ugly to me LOL. It all takes time doesn't it? I for one am impatient! At least I have my hair back - that's the most important one for me right now. The things we have to go through to get better. Wish someone could make chemo that doesn't have side effects. Maybe someday.0 -
still having nail issues as well
Hi Kimosabe! It is so frustrating when you think, "wow, I am done with chemo" and you still have nasty side-effects! Most of my nails look, as someone mentioned, as if they were scrunched in a door...they are black and are loose from the nail beds. I am keeping them as short as possible, as not to catch them on anything, and am continuing to get manicures and keep polish on them. The polish does mask the discoloration. It will take a while for our side-effects to go away....that chemo stuff is potent!!!0 -

I finished Chemo in November. My nails turned black and blue and they hurt. Then they turn white at the tips ( not like a french tip ) very uneven. Then the lines of white started. Lost big toe nail and small toe's nail. I used tea tree oil all the time. Not really sure if it helped or not but did it anyways. Today my nail are just starting to look better. Not real strong, but I don't look sick. Toe nail is gross, embarrassing. Well winter is coming so they will be covered.0 -

My fingernails are like tree trunks - I have a white line for each round of chemo that I received. I have been done for almost 3 months and they are about half grown out now....0
