Stage 3a information

Hello,

My father was diagnoised a few months ago with stage 3a. We were hopeful for surgery but that is not an option right now. He has gone through about 5 treatments of chemo (strong and he is having tremendous leg and foot pain). Any thoughts on how he can work through this horrible pain?
We were told since the chemo strunk the tumor and they thought the lymphnoids were ok...they started surgery but they found cancer in the lung lining. So now radiation isn't an option either and they just said more chemo is all they can do. My parents have gone to a few other opinions too.
I'm wondering what survival stories others have about stage 3a and if anyone has gone through what my family is going through. We are very religious and placing this in God's hands but this is very awful for all of us. thanks!!

    In June my mother was
    In June my mother was diagnosed with Stage 3a NSCLC. Her tumor was in her right lung, only about the size of a robins egg (about 3cm). The doctor told us it was no big deal, totally curable. He kept saying that we shouldn't freak out and that we didn't have to be that aggressive because the tumor wasn't very aggressive. For two months we complained to him that my mother had severe pain in her back and leg. He said it was probably just a pinched nerve from the biopsy and that we should see a chiropractor. Last week she could no longer stand the pain and has been hospitalized ever since. Since the doctor never did another scan, we had no idea that the tumor had grown 3 times in size, spread to the left lung and to nearly every bone in her body. She is now stage 3b and fading fast.
    We haven't given up hope and are trying alternative methods such as diet change and hemp oil (which has been shown in some studies to shrink tumor size). We are not a religious family and put our faith in the strength of our love to pull her through.
    Don't take any pain he is having for granted. Demand a scan of the area that he is hurting. Don't give up and realize that though you should heed your doctors instructions, Western medicine doesn't always have all the answers.

    Hemp oil?
    Thanks for your reply and your thoughts. We'll keep your mom in our thoughts too. So sorry to hear about your mom. Lung cancer is just the craziest cancer where there are no straight answers or treatments. I feel if you don't get the surgery, there isn't anything else.

    My dad also had pain for a long time in his back and chest and the doctor's said it was a pinched nerve and he was just getting old so I think this could have been caught sooner. However, now the pain in his legs is awful due to all his chemo. They say it is just a side effect. We don't know what to try to help his legs. They are telling us chemo is our only hope- no radiation allowed due to the cancer being in the lining of the lung.

    What kind of diet changes do you know about and do you just put the hemp oil on the spot of where the tumor is?

    I'm looking all over and I cant find any scientific studies that show hemp oil has any effect on cancer. I know some doctors prescribe Marinol, derived from Marijuana, as an appetite stimulant. I don't believe, however that hemp oil will do anything. I can see you are looking hard for something to help your mom...is she having chemo at all?

    In my opinion, her doctor deserves some suffering - he sounds like he was utterly careless and neglectful!

    Her oncologist told us the same thing about the pain in her leg and back...he was wrong...it was the tumor getting bigger. Demand another scan!
