God bless you
Dear Shane,
First of all...you need to up that percentage...you must be 100% confident that you will wake up from surgery. If an old coot like Kerry S can manage it you can! (luv ya Kerry...lol).
Lots of emotions running high I am sure, especially with the folks and in-laws there.
Let me assure you that waking up with a bag, either temp or perm, is not a big deal. In fact I bet you could get Kerry's wife Susie to get you the specs on Kerry's bag keeper. A bag does not have to impact your quality of life.
For me the time before the surgery with the prep and all was the hardest. When my sugar level drops from not eating my emotions get seriously out of wack. After surgery the best thing is to get mobile as soon as and as much as your med team want.
Praying for positive outcome from the surgery and fast easy recovery. Come back and post when you are able.
Hugs,
Marie who loves kitties0 -

Surgery
I'm sure you will wake up from surgery. This was a big concern of mine too, but the doctors have done so many of these that they know exactly what they are doing. Having an ileostomy isn't is bad as the anticipation of it. Mine was temporary but after getting used to it it is just like a new normal. You will be going through a rollercoaster of emotions for quite a while so if you get emotional and upset, just know that it is ok and very common. Come here when you get stressed too because a lot of us have been where you are. Sounds like you will have excellent care after surgery. Remember to walk, walk, walk. The more you walk, the faster you will heal. It might hurt, but it will help big time. You will be in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and speedy one at that.

Prayers for you
Hi Shane,
My Mom and I are new to this site. Mom had the surgery on July 7th. She was 78 at that time. She is now 79, This woman has never been sick a day in her life and then in March we got the news of the rectal cancer. To say it was a shock was an understatement. She gets real dizzy when she stubs her toe, so we were wondering how in the heck she was going to handle the bag. Hers is permanent. She is doing really, really well with it. My whole family was there for the surgery. I was scared to death, but she did just fine. And now it is just another part of her life.
You will be in our prayers tonight. I'm going to tell Mom right now to say an extra special prayer for you. You will be fine. Have faith.
Love,
Linda and Ellie0 -
Shane - You're the ****ing
Shane - You're the **** man! Don't forget that. Of course you will wake up!! Then you'll get better and before you know it you'll be at you home trying to explain to your son why Daddy craps out of a hole in his tummy. My boy still doesn't understand it, but he's fascinated.
You'll do great tomorrow. Take care.

surgery
I am home from my second surgery in four years-poor colon taking a beating but so is cancer. You will wake up from surgery. My last surgery on the 30th took six hours which was three hours longer than they thought. So you will wake up. My only advice is get out of the hospital ASAP. Hospitals are not designed for patients to get better. Talk to ya in a couple of days0 -
You'll be fine!
Hi, Shane.
I remember being very nervous before my colon resection, and then the actual morning of the operation, I was calm. I knew I was past a point where any of it was in my control (it never was, really!). So I just said prayers with my husband and our minister and told God it was up to him to help me live through it. I don't know if you are a praying person, but I will pray for you.
*hugs*
