My husband was stage 4 tonsil cancer, had alot of radiation and chemo. A lot of the problems you are explaining he has. I think you should talk to your doctor but the memory issue is really bad for my husband and it has been almost four years. We do not go out to ear because food gets stuck. I hate to sound depressing but he is now having major dental problems. Make sure you address your oral health right away. Good luck
Not making this up - I read a newspaper article several months ago and the term they used was "chemo brain". Slurred speech is a side effect that (if it happens) normally does appeear until around the seven year point according to my Dr at UAB in Birmingham. It hit me at the 11 1/2 year point.
Thrush - needs medication.

thank you Greend. they don't think it has anything to do w/radiation but i do. I know my memory is practically gone. I will b talking to someone and immedaitely forget what I had just said. It is really bad. I see a nurologist next month and tests are being run. I just hope I get some memory back. Life will be way too hard if it doens't. I am very depressed over it and sometimes my husband yells at me. It is awful not having a memory.
Take care and God bless you.

Hi Debbie:
So sorry to hear you're still having problems with all this. Just want you to know you're in my prayers. I hope hubby realizes (I'm sure he does) that you are as upset over this as he is. It's hard on the spouse sometimes but we have to remember it's even harder on you! Going to the lake in TN with my best friend and her family this weekend. My sister has been here a few days and is coming back next week. Take care. God Bless.

Dear Debbie,
I was just reading some things about memory loss and thought of you.
OK it was in Oprah, not the AMA, but anyway...common causes of memory loss, these should sound familiar to many of us. I have added the stemming from and tx section. These are my highly subjective thoughts and not medical advice by any stretch, obviously given the original reference.
Just wanted to bring up extra info for you to share with your doctor, as you research this.
PS.How do you differentiate between "chemo brain" and when there is a more severe problem?
Problem Stemming From Treatment
1.Chronic Stress No surprise there, tx etc Check with Dr, multitudes of tx
2.High Cholesterol In my case, a diet of milkshakes Meds, diet change when able
3.Sleep Apnea It could be decreased room in the check with MD, sleep study.
throat, leads to airway problems.
4.Hypothyroidism Seems to be common post H&N rads Check with MD,labs, meds.
Do complete thyroid levels.
Look up thyroid problems to see
which labs you should have done.
I have read that sometimes low
thyroid levels can be missed.
Good Luck. I seem to be freezing and forgetful as well.(We could name this diagnosis F2)
I plan on looking into the thyroid issues as well. Good luck!

My thoughts are with you.
Besides the thrush, the disorientation of memory loss must be just awful for you.
Hope you get to the bottom of this and that all turns out well.
