Hi, I just saw my Dr. today. I've had 8 rounds of cabo/taxol and my ca-125 is 56. My Dr. wants me to start on Doxil. CT-Scan is clear.I thought he would give me a break and just watch me but he wants me to start it at the end of the month. I just had my last Chemo Sept. 8th. Has anyone done back to back chemos. I'm so upset, the chemo is awful I hate it!!I started to take alot of vitamins and he suggested I just take Centrum.I don't understand that either, I thought vitamins would be good for your immune system. Any advise on Doxil will be appreciated.Thank God I have you ladies to count on. You have given me great support and advise.
Hugs and Prayers
Terry

    rough news
    Hi Terry,
Hopefully he's just being cautious and wants to see your numbers get lower. On the vitimins, I take a multi, calcium (milk and I don't get along), B complex, garlic, E, and Omega 3 fish oil. My doctor thought they were all OK, but I'd check with yours before adding anything, and so far my blood counts have all been bouncing back where they belong. Good luck and take care.

    set back
Terry - I hope you don't feel it is a set back. Maybe you can ask more questions about why he wants to start you on something new so soon. Is 56 the lowest your CA 125 has ever been since you started this whole thing? I would feel the exact same as you do though. It has to be frustrating - especially if you felt like the light at the end of the tunnel was finally coming your way.

Re: vitamins - the only ones my oncologist allows are Selenium and Vitamin E. Don't ask me why, I just take them. Some of the vitamins react with other meds though - so you always need to ask before taking them.

Let us know what you decide to do. I will keep you close in my thoughts.

    constant chemo
Terry, I have been on chemo for 20 months now. Sure can relate to your tiredness of it all. My CA125 has been below ten since last Nov. and now this month jumped to 29 so I am having fears of not being able to take a rest after my last dose on the 30th of the maintenance Taxol that I have had for the last 11 months.
I take vitamins and have found that they help. I am taking a "energizing Iron" to help with the fatigue and think that it does. So far my oncologist is agreeable to the vitamins I add...to my multiple mineral/vit daily. (for side effects). I have not had any infections, colds, flu etc. Saundra

    56?
I wait until my count is below 100 then I stop for a while. I have had chemo alot the last 2 years and been fighting for 6 years. I would be happy with a 56 count but he may want yours at 35 or lower. I tell them when I want a break and do it. Mine is over 6500 but was 14000. But with carbo its dropping pretty good so below 100 is my goal then I am taking another break. Maybe 4 to 6 months. I take stess tabs, iron, calcium with D, E, and fish oil which has kept me going and my tumors are no bigger then end of my finger. So doing pretty good. I would definately ask him why chemo again when its only 54. Lets us know.

    Doxil
My mother had back to back chemo also. The last was doxil. It is supposed to surround the tumors and not allow them to grow. It made her mouth and throat so sore she could hardly even swallow bread. I have done alot of research on the medications that my mother has had to take and the reason for the vitamins is that it could case nausea and constipation. Good luck. My mother is in end stage with no treatment left just pain management. Cancer STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Doxil will also give you a false increase in your ca125. My mothers has never been above 29. When she took the Doxil it went up to 75.

I have just registered to this site today and was thrilled to see your message. I too was on Doxil for four treatments. Almost immediately I had trouble swallowing. My esphogus would close up on me and the food would not go down. It was very painful. I would cough so much that I would upchuck. Then I got the awful mouth sores to the point where I could not eat or drink and was on an IV. I don't think some of the doctors believed that it was due to the Doxil. I thank you for your comments on your mom. At last, I know I was right. About the CA 125, when I started Doxil they were at 400, after four times on Doxil they went up to 715. I am now off of it and will begin a new chemo soon. I began chemo in Nov. of 2006 and have been on some kind or another since. Hope mom is doing much better.

    Mouth sores
I have taken l-Lysine since I started chemo in Mar. of '07 and have not had a mouth sore. My oncology nurse suggested it. I take one every day. Over the counter with the vitamins... Welcome to this site.
I have not taken Doxil yet so I don't know if it will work with it. That is the next one that I will probably be given. Saundra

    2 years of different chemo's
I am on my break now, but my doctor did not want me to do it. In Sept. I wasin the hospital for 13 days (bowel obstruction, they did hernia surgery. I was in the hospital 3 days in aug. because of dehydration, no electralytes(sp) blood ect.
So ecause of surgery he did not start me back on chemo immediatly and I just decided I was going to feel good during the holidays and enjoy my family and that is what I told him and he finally agreed and understood. I know he has my best interest at heart and was saying he did not want to get behind the 8 ball ect.. but you know what I havent had chemo since the first of Aug. and my CA-123 went from 224 to 130 without being on chemo so there ya go I don't have alot of faith in those numbers, I think they can be a sign definitely but I also think other things can cause them to go up. Oh yeah he wants mine down to 10 before I am finished. The last chemo I was on was Topotecan and it did a number on my blood. I have also been on doxil and gemzar, besides the first on carbo/taxol.
Hope this helps, in the end we know our bodies and what we can take and if we need a break.

    God Bless, Jan

    Hi Saundra,
Yes I had my second treatment Monday. I'm doing good so far , no hand or foot problems. Taking the advise from alot of people on the board of what to do. The only problem I'm having is that I'm so nauseaous. Nothing is working. I've tryed Zolfran,Granisetron and others. My CA-125 was at 40 now is at 57, they said this would happen with the Doxil.Good Luck! Please keep us posted on what they will decide to give you.

Hello. Like many of the women on the board, I too have taken Doxil. It was one of the worse ones for me, although some of it was my own fault. I took a six hour (each way) car trip a couple of days after my infusion. Guess what? At least 2nd degree burns on the backs of my legs and hips. Lots of pain with that....and then, peeling for months. Bonnie had much good advice about using and soaking in Ocean_____? (can't remember now) You really do need to wear loose clothing, etc. Doxil didn't work for me, but has helped lots of others. I take tons of vitamins, minerals, supplements, etc. It seems to be okay with my doctor because he knows. I've never had one day of nausea (close to 4 years of almost back to back chemo)but give some credit to the bag of pre-meds infusion that we all get just prior to the chemo. Here's hoping and praying that it works wonders for you!!!!! Take good care and keep us posted. With hugs, MM

How do we remove this topic?
I find is very sad to keep seeing ladyjogger's old posts when she is no longer with us. Can someone advise the "boardkeepers" to please remove this? I was going to tag it as offensive, but that didn't seem the right approach. This happens every once in a while and is it too bad. Thanks, Froggy
