Poss Endometrial Cancer

Hi, I am new to all of this and I am scared. I have been having heavy periods for years. I have been on HRT for approx 7 years and every time I would bring this topic up with my Gyn my hormone meds would get changed. I have IC(Intersitial Cystitis) and my Urologist ordered a Pelvic U/S to check on pelvic pain. This started back in June 2010 when the U/S showed a thick stripe on my endometrium. The Gyn was contacted and I had a D&C in July. The pathology came back with endometrial hyperplasia with moderate nuclear atypia. I was sent to a Gyn Oncologist and will be having a hysterectomy in Mid Sept. I was told depending on the biopsy of uterus I would also need staging of lymph nodes. I have been so lucky to be healthy with only high cholesterol, which is being maintained by meds. I was taken off the HRT before the D&C was performed. Now I am experiencing extreme mood swings, crying at the drop of a hat and hot flashes. I know alot of it is because of being off the hormones but I am waking up with panic attacks. I constantly think of the pending surgery. I do not like having surgeries done but this one really scares me. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you

    What your feeling is
    What your feeling is normal...on both counts. Sounds like your getting hit hard with menopausal symptoms and the anxiety of the upcoming surgery is tipping your boat. Not knowing is always the hardest part. Having an undefined dx is as scarry as being told outright "you have cancer". Talk with your docs. They can prescribe anti-anxiety meds that can help. My doc gave me a script as soon as she saw the mass; although I never took them. I focused all my energy on what needed to be done to survive the dreaded dx and spent alot of time researching (don't believe everything you read. It will make your head spin). I believe you will find many women in either the uterine or ovarian board that are wonderful and have gone through exactly what you are.
    For the menopausal problem...I used an accupuncturist. He paved a smooth road through that one for me.
    I wish you luck in your upcoming adventure. I hope you breeze through the surgery and any damage found is minimal.

    Thanks for the info
    I called my regular Gyn this AM and he prescribed an anxiety med for me to try. I am willing to try anything at this time. THank you for all the information. I wish I could try alternative measures but financially at this time it is not feasible.

    You are heading in the direction of healing....it is natural to be scared of the surgery, however the surgery is something you will recover from. It is normal for them to take biopsies from the surgery and if Lymph nodes look suspicious they may take some to biopsy.

    Alternative choices can be
    Alternative choices can be expensive...I wish they were covered by insurance plans, because I've gotten some very favorable results with them. I got very lucky during my ca treatments, because my acupuncturist (I've been with him for many years) provided all my treatments without talking about $$. He just told me, "Pay what you can, when you can. The important thing right now is to get you through this." He also holds degrees in social work and massage, so I got the best of all worlds.
    I hope the anti-anxiety meds work for you. Hang in there!
