last year l was on Folfox which caused me a severe neuropathy, after 10 rounds we had to stop due to the neuropathy. Now 8 months after been off folfox l still had certain high level of it on my feet an hands. Unofrtunadelly l am in recurrence and l have already started 5 days a go with Folfiri +avastin (first round) , my main concern is that today the existing old neuropathy is going worst, an lm a little beat worried ,as per the doctors it suppose no neuropathy use to be caused by my Folfiri nor Avastin.l would not like to have to search for a third plan !
Beside that no other major side effects for the moment (tks god).
Did any body had any kind of neurological problems caused by folfiri or avastin?Cut it be a different kind of syndrome? (feet&hands syndrome for example) What is the difference between neuropathy and feet and hands syndrome?
l will apreciate any comment to my post!
Best to every body!

Hand-Foot Syndrome is caused by 5FU
5FU is part of both Folfiri and FolFox, and does cause neuropathy - hand-Foot syndrome. The Oxaliplatin is the nasty part of Folfox that really does a major number, but I've had residual neuropathy from both the 5FU and the Oxaliplatin. I don't believe that the Avastin is contributing to your neuropathy problems.

Have you been told to take supplemental vitamin B6, or possibly Alpha Lipoic Acid? I took B6 while on chemo, take the ALA now, tho I've heard of people taking it during chemo. Ask your dr for recommendations. I also found that foot massages helped tremendously.

    Good luck!

    Try Alpha-Lipoic Acid
I have been using it throughout my chemo. I'm on 5-FU and oxaliplatin. I have neuropathy, but it's relatively minor and usually wears off in the 2 weeks between treatments. I don't know if it's the alpha Lipoic acid or that's just the way the drugs affect me. I don't think it can hurt.

    Neuropathy
Both 5FU and Xeloda even more aggravated residual neuropathy that I had in my feet. In my case, the aggravation from the Xeloda went away when the Xeloda was stopped. I am now doing the oxaliplatin again, which I assume is more responsible for any increase in neuropathy than the 5FU. I don't believe that Avastin has any impact on neuropathy.

    FOLFIRI and Avastin
I have had this combo MANY times. After my initial resection, I was put on FOLFOX, but only completed 3 treatments due to complications and continued with just the 5FU and Leucovorin. I don't have any residual neuropathy, so I can't speak to whether or not the FOLFIRI would complicate this side effect. I did have mucho gastro issues from the 5FU and consumed mass quantities of lomotil and hyocyamine. Initially, there would be some apparent constipation, but I never even bothered with it, knowing that once the pump was disconnected, i would be running to the bathroom constantly. Hopefully you won't have too much discomfort and your neuropathy won't get any worse.
