Hi everybody, I received my ct with contrast results to check out my spn (solitary pulmonary nodule) in my lung. On 5-4 the pet-ct showed a 7mmx8mm spn and on 8-11 the ct with contrast showed a 11mmx9mm spn. I will have a consult with a thoraic surgeon on 8-31 to see what the next step is. This dr told my oncologist if its growing it should come out. I realize that there is an error margin for spns according to who reads the tests. I had the 1st test done at a different imaging center recommended by my ocologist, and I had the ct scan done at the original imaging center where I had all my previous tests done. The thoraic surgeon has been practicing for 31 years, and he performs the VATS procedure, where you may biopsy the spn in the OR and then proceed from there. I will get to view my films and then I will tell the dr what to do. LOL. I will update everyone. Lori

    Hi Lori
I'm sorry that the scan results were not what you were hoping for. I, too, hoped that the nodule would be gone or on its way to being gone. You have an experienced thoracic surgeon on board, so I'm sure he will know exactly what needs to be the next step here. After your consult with him, I hope you'll let us know what the plans are. Hopefully, you'll hear from someone here who has had this procedure. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry the SPN didn't disappear but it does sound as though your consult will be with a really experienced surgeon. Stay strong- we know you are! Hopefully it will be just another detour on the road to recovery. We are here for you!

I know we are so aware of every change, which is good but also makes us so nervous. It could be the scan itself, the change in mm is very small. Were both done with contrast? I'm going to think that it is a tiny change and could be related to the scan and the reader. When I was first diagonsed in Colorado, the idiot doctor told my husband (after my colonoscopy) that I had a tumor the size of a tennis ball! Never told me that and neither did my husband. After going to MD Anderson, long story short, my tumor was 2cm X 2.5 cm, about an inch or so by an inch or so. If a colorectal doctor could screw an interpretation up that bad, then someone reading a CT scan could be off by a mm or so.

Best to keep an eye on it and consult with whoever you need to. I'm just trying to see both sides and hoping and praying that the minor change is just a difference between scans and scan readers.

    I'll be praying for you,

    A little math...
The difference between 7mm and 11mm (4mm) equals 0.15 inches which is less than a quarter of an inch. The difference of 1mm equals .039 inches. Tiny and I think could be the way the scan was done or read. Could even be a shadow.

    Just wanted to share that!

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for putting this into perspective. I have an appt with a pulmonary dr the 8-27, and I will bring him the films from the pet-ct and the ct with contrast. I have not seen the films yet. Then I will see the thoraic surgeon on 8-31. I am grateful that it is so small, and that I have had the scans to watch exactly whats going on.

    Thank you,

    Lori
