Aye, Aye Mateys!!!! - Update...pics posted....'All I need is a tall ship, and a star to steer her b
I am sooooooo excited!!!!
This is a big event, held only every 5 years. There are tall ships, and old ships, and even some new ones that tie up in the harbor behind Amsterdam Central Station. From all over the world.
The COOLEST part???? I get to ride around on a vintage tug boat, right in the water with these magnificent ships!!!!! So far, on the news, there is the 4-masted Stad Amsterdam, a ship from Sweden, Russia, Norway, and one from Poland. No sign of the stars-and-stripes, but I will keep looking.
Saturday is the big day for us, I will take LOADS of pics, and post after we get home!
I am dancing already!!!!
Hugs, Kathi

My new pic is from the wheelhouse of the boat we went on....
500,000 people attended the event on Saturday...WHAT a wonderful time! And it was so well organized, and the police had a big presence...so no funny business!
We toured all the tall ships, from the water, and even got stuck in grid lock at one point, where everyone had to form a line to get thru...we used our bumpers, and a few well-placed shoves, but no big colisions, that I know of...altho, at one point, we had the fore mast (? the mast that sticks out front)of the 3-master behind us jutting over the back of our boat...
We boarded the homeward-bound train tired but happy...it was a GREAT day!

Tall Ships!!
Wow.....so awesome! My son is an Officer in the US Coast Guard. During his training at Officer Candidate School they went out on The Coast Guard Eagle for several weeks. It is a 3 masted Barque...formerly used in Germany as a training ship! We aquired it after WWII!
The Officer Candidates learn to sail ( the ship also has an engine now ) and for many this is their first experience living and working on a ship! I haven't had the opportunuty to see the Eagle yet, but this has become a goal of mine. I want to see The Eagle!
My son just did a safety inspection on the museum ship "The Suprise". It was used in the Russell Crowe movie "Master and Commander". The newest Pirate of the Carribean movie may use the ship!
Tall ships are so cool! Glad that you had a fantastic time!
Fair winds and following seas!
