Blood in stool
So I am back asking for prayers, good vibes or whatever it is you believe in, I will gladly accept it. I am praying its just hemroids (sp), not to many people pray for that, but I will jump up and down in my little hospital gown if the Doc says thats all it is. I will keep everyone posted, I am guessing I will get a call today to set it up, as my PC had her nurse on the phone getting me a GI doctor before I left the exam room yesterday. I love my PC she is really good, with a great bed side manner and compassion for people. Its funny, I am an immigration officer and my PC is from Vietnam and my ONC is from south Africa, I think its funny. My GI will probably be from India or something. Ironic a bit I think.
Ok I am rambling, at work now, so best get busy. Love and prayers to all....

I will keep you in my prayers and hope along with you it's nothing more than a case of hemorrhoids:) we are here for you and wish you the best!

I so know what you are feeling. Been there, done that. And yes, it scares the crap out of you!! I had bled for like 3 days, not heavy, just so you know it's there and changed toilet water color...yuk! I ended up going to the hospital cause it was scaring me so bad. It was NOT anything cancer. They said it was bleeding from a little tear in there from either hard stoole or too much going.... a common ailment that heals itself in most cases. Mine stopped a few days later. They said NO straining when going potty. I am sending vibes your way that it is something on these lines or roids..... Who the heck would ever think we would be praying for roids????? Just don't seem right does it??? But it is what it is and you will deal with whatever IT is. You are a strong and determined person. It's gonna be ALL RIGHT!!! Take care....

blood in stool
I've mostly been lurking these past months, but thought I'd weigh in on why I am so glad you are getting checked. I had started acting strange ( If you knew me better, you'd ask how could anyone tell strange from normal strange!) I had the tarry black stool and my doctor said if that ever happened to get myself into the ER. Well, like most guys I didn't do it. And then my voice started slurring the words. It took me a long time to respond to questions and then it was just goofy talk. Plus, I didn't want to do anything, except watch TV.
One Friday morning, June 4, Mary, my wife, dragged me to the ER at Mayo and they did some blood tests. Turns out I had a strain of Strep called H Pilori or something. It's particularly nasty and pure hell on the stomach. So I was bleeding profusely in several places in my stomach including development of a bleeding ulcer. Took them more than a week to determine what it was.
If that wasn't bad enough, I was anemic from the loss of blood, dehydrated, but in the weirdest way, the "water" had settled in my legs and mid-section and I really swelled up. And my kidney as a result virtually shut down, with the next step being dialysis.
So they did an endoscopy, cauterizing the bleeding points, put me on an antibiotic drip and same for electrolytes. They also gave me stiff doses of two diuretics, which ended up losing 30 lbs. in 11 days, virtually all the stored water in my legs and midsection. My kidney started up OK. I was on a liquid diet. Mayo or not, they have some nasty food. But I didn't get to eat for three days. And when I finally did, it was like the worst good the Navy ever prepared. They had teams of doctors coming by to observe me and ask questions. Guess it was the first time they'd treated that strain of Strep. Plus, the nurses would wake me every hour and ask me questions. I suppose they wanted to see if I was improving. When I finally told them to leave me along and quit waking me up, they said, yep, he's getting better.
I forgot to mention they also gave me a blood transfusion of two pints of whole blood. This really did the trick. There just wasn't enough blood getting oxygen to my brain. The severity of the situation came home when the primary doctor told Mary and I that if I hadn't come in on Friday, I would have more than likely been dead by Tuesday. I would just have gone to sleep and not awakened. Let me tell you, that got my attention! When I came in, I couldn't even sign my name on the forms.
Once I got got home, it was about a two week recovery period. Biggest problem for me was a loss of stamina in my legs. Couldn't want far and climbing the stairs was rough and I had to use the railing and pull myself up, step by step.
I'm not telling you this other than to tell you that it might not be cancer, because who in the world would have thought I'd get that nasty infection. Doc said I could have picked it up any time and it just never came to life. I went to some nasty places in the Navy, maybe that was it, or it could have been there since who knows when, but it was definitely in my blood.
I'm praying that your situation is nothing more than roids. You definitely don't want what I had. It's been an interesting two years, diabetes, colon cancer and then this infection. I may change my screen name to "Lucky!" Take care. BTW, great photo of your grandson.0 -
What color
What color was the blood Beth? If it's bright red it is most likely hemmorriods or something else close to your anus. Blood is almost black red before it hits oxygen and then it turns a brighter red. It is great that you know enough and are are getting it checked so quickly.
My original rectal tumor didn't bleed so those poop on the stick test I had for physicals missed everything. I've had a few scares of blood (bright red) the last few years and it has always been roids.
Didn't you just have testing done and everything was fine? Yes you did so try to remain calm and get the scope done and go from there. You owe me a drink at CP8 when it ends up being nothing to worry about.

It will be an honor to buy you a drink in October. When I first noticed it on friday it was bright red, which is why I didnt go immediately to my PC, I already had an appointment with her on Monday. There was more blood on saturday. I am thinking its roids too, yes I just got scanned on June 1st, and got the all clear. I was going over my scan results today, because I was concerned that I hadnt had a PET Scan and I was getting mad at my ONC thinking I should have had one, cuz if the cancer is back it would have shown over just the CAT scan. But from what I read the CAT did cover the pelvic area and mentioned that the original suture area was improving. That made me feel better. The hold up for me is the look on my PC's face after she did the exam, she just looked scared and so concerned for me.
I didnt get a call yet today, so if I dont hear from them tomorrow I am going to call. I want to get this done, so I can rest and get the well needed beauty sleep.

I have heard of stories where things viruses or infections can lay inside of you for years, and then just one day Bam it hits you. I am so glad they found out what it was. A lot of crazy things out there.
So good to hear from you...
