radiofrequency ablation
The dr is going to do radiofrequency ablation on it next week.
The dr said it was very rare cancer. Has anyone else had the radiofrequency ablation and did it shrink the turmor?
Thanks
Jeannie

ablation
I had microwave ablation, which is a little newer than the RFA, but it is still very similar! Zapped the bugger completely! And recovery was minimal! I had a small met in my liver and one on my left adrenal gland. Zapped them both at one go, which was about 4 hours. Really had more pain from the adrenal gland, since the kidney seemed to have absorbed quite a bit of the microwave. I have very small scars and I really was just out for the weekend. the stay at the hospital was overnight and that really is precautionary only.

Interventional radiologyPhillieG said:RFA
I've had it done a few times. It destroys the tumor. It dissolves the tumor and the recovery is fast. I stayed overnight the first time and went home the same day the other times.
Phil - what kind of sedation/anesthesia did you have for the RFA? I have had 2 procedures with interventional radiology and the "conscious sedation" left me fully conscioud - no sedation. Just wondering what your experience has been as.I have another procedure coming up. Thank you.0 -

I was out cold. They have a brand new wing over at Sloan just for this procedure. It's really cool. I had it done yesterday and went home the same day.0 -
My husband got the RFA done
My husband got the RFA done on Thursday. It took about 3 hours.
The doctor said his mass was calcified and hard as a rock.
They had to work real hard to get the probe in & opened.
They took several biopsies of the tumor.
His rib area & arm are a little sore from the procedure.
He is doing real good.
