Biopsy of the liver needed?
My question is if biopsy is generally foregone with activity in the liver for those with anal cancer? I guess I am just curious as to what the common process is, if any even exist?
Also, good luck to all of those getting scans this week. My prayers and happy thoughts are with you.

I had a biopsy to confirm that it was the same type of cancer.

Hi, I have not experienced this. But I would think a biopsy would be the proper way to dx the lesion, so as to treat it with the correct chemo/radiation. Let us know what happens. Lori0 -
I had a biopsy as well. I
I had a biopsy as well. I had a spots on my liver on my first scan 2 years ago....but they said it is very unusual for anal cancer to spread to the liver,so it probably was just spots....nothing to worry about! 2 years later after it grew a little, they do a biopsy and it has spread....so makes me wonder why they didn't just do it initially! Seems more common than they say!
Wishing you good luck!!!!0 -

Thank you ladies.
I'd asked her doc today why he decided against a biopsy and he mentioned that since he saw it in the lymph nodes, he highly suspects that it's the same cancer in the liver.
She had her 2nd round of chemo today, w/ radiation starting in two wks.
What I found interesting is that she saw a lot of relief (stop in the bleeding and significant reduction of pain) just after the 1st chemo treatment. I am hoping that this means that chemo is kicking this nasty disease's butt and that the same is happening to the liver to so she can get a liver resection. A girl can dream , right?Did you guys see benefits of your treament quickly also??
Thanks again!0 -

Wow that's great! I did feel relief fairly quickly but from the radiation, not the chemo.
Hope that continues for her!!! A friend of mine had great response from chemo to her liver, and ended up not even needing the resection after !!0 -

Sandra--I have not read or heard of it spreading to the heart. Liver and lungs are most common sites of metastases.0
