Has anyone gotten a tattoo to signify the battle with BC? If so, what did you get and where? Do we have to be conscious of our "lymphedema" side?

thanks, marge

    No, I haven't
No Marge, I haven't. But, I know many on here have. I just can't remember who at this moment. lol

And, I would think that you shouldn't on the side where you had lymph nodes removed, as, we are never supposed to even get a shot, have our blood pressure taken, have blood taken or anything on that side. Be sure and ask your oncologist about it.

Let us know if you get one!

I got one on my inner left
I got one on my inner left wrist shortly before my surgery - a lotus flower, to remind me to stay as calm as I can, with the number "10" on the inside because this year my birthday is 10-10-10. I'm moderately tattooed as it is, and the newest one was a little gift to myself to remind me to stay calm, and love myself.
I have also wondered with the lymphedema thing, if I could get tattooed on my right arm (where I was planning on getting a fairly large half-sleeve style tattoo once this was all done :( ). I had 3 removed (all negative though woo-hoo!!).
I will most definately be getting a pink ribbon on me somewhere when I'm done, and also thinking about getting my mastectomy scars tattooed over once I'm all healed - not sure if i'll be having nipples re-done or not.
Great post! I love all things tattoo!!
    *hugs*

Good luck with that tatoo, Marge.
You know we'll all want to see a picture! I don't have any, but I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to get one on the "bad" side. My oncologist said no BPs, no blood draws and even no manicures! :(

    Not on the "bad" side......
As others said.....not even an injection or BP check on the side where lymph nodes were removed....even as few as three.....you can set yourself up for lymphodema......and that can be a life long problem....

Personally, I wouldn't want a "reminder" tattoo of BC......If I were going to get a tattoo,it would have nothing to do with bc.....I was teasing my niece a few years back......she had a small tattoo put on her right shoulder, fairly close to her breast......I said, "Just wait until you're my age.......that tattoo will be on your belly!" We had a good laugh....

But, to each his own.......just don't do it on the side where your lymph nodes were removed!

    thinking
I had a few dot tats put on for radiation, but I have been thinking about getting a "real" one. I would like something to remind me of what I have been thru, but in a possitive way. I guess I will probably get one once I decide what I want. It will probably not be in a location that everyone will see, but where I could show people if I decide to. Anyone know where the least painful areas are to have them put on?

    I have 3
The first was outside right ankle -- didn't really hurt. The second was top of my left foot. There's lots of nerve endings there so my foot jumped alot and it was a little worse than my ankle. The third one is upper left thigh (can only be seen in a swim suit). That one hurt like crazy. I never expected it to because I do not have small thighs. I've always heard that the more meaty the area, the less pain, but I'm obviously the exception.

    tattoo?
No reminders for me please...I have a pink starfish on my ankle and a crab[does that tell you something?]lol on my foot...But I have to say that one of those "little" dots on my rib for radiation was by far the most painful......I think she got a little carried away....

Wishing you good luck Marge with your tattoo. Just don't get it on the side where your nodes or node was taken. Post pics when you do!

    Going to get one!
My daughter got one on her foot in my honor. She designed it herself, its a ribbon with some swirly designs around it. Real pretty. I plan to get one that my cousin is designing for me. I have a sea turtle on my left ankle and Hawaiian sea turtles with flowers going around my right ankle. I am trying to decide whether my survivor tattoo will go on the inside of my left ankle or shoulder.
tjhay got a really cool one and she posted the picture on facebook.

    Tattoo
I had about halfway decided if my eyebrows don't come back to my liking, I was going to have some tattooed on. Someone told me dark brown or black would end up fading to a blue color, so...that would just be one more thing for people to stare at. LOL
