I attended my local chapter of the NOCC (National Ovarian Cancer Coalition) this AM and was very happy to make the acquaintance of a nine year, stage IIIc survivor and a seven year survivor (also IIIc). The nine year survivor has received five courses of chemo but she looks great and is currently in remission (again). The seven year survivor was NED until this past January. She just finished treatment for her first recurrence and is, once again, dancing with "the man".

Nothing encourages us like real in-the-flesh success stories. Survivor number two (seven years out) said she had symptoms for over a year, but her doctors refused to take her seriously. She is still POed about that, and I don't blame her. We must all be willing to speak up and advocate for ourselves. No one is as vested in your good health as you are!

    Support Groups
Thanks Carlene for reminding us about local support groups for OVCA. I attended my first group meeting of the 'Teal Magnolias' this past Wed. here in Charlotte. I'm sorry it took me so long to finally go, but you are correct in saying that it is important to connect with other local survivors in addition to the wonderful support group here on this OVCA site. I would encourage if possible for anyone who has the availability of a local support group to try to go to one. It's a chance to be perfectly honest and OK with everything you say or feel. It also gives you the opportunity to help others, just by being a physical presence and listening and understanding this journey isn't solo. Peace to all - Ellen
