Colon Cancer stage 4 can someone give my dad hope??

    I'm surprised your oncologist is not aware of that.
    True, there is no pill that magically "cures" cancer but to suggest that if you have stage IV CC that no one gets through it is plain reckless at best and of no use to anyone on the site. What stage are you? I see no info about any diagnosis you have. Do you even have cancer?

    Or maybe we just have a bunch of people on the site who are dead and don't know it yet?

    Yes there is hope
    Sometimes we get in the mindset that there isn't hope. Colon cancer stage IV here.
    I'm proof there's hope, I got diagnosed Feb 06. Told there was no hope, go home enjoy your life. I did chemo anyway. I was told I wouldn't be eligible for surgery, ever. My oncologist is now talking about surgery. (I'll find out August 16th). My oncologist was also telling me he thinks I'll be just fine. I've done incredibly well with chemo.
    So yes, there is hope for your dad. You just have to plug away, one day at a time. There will be depressing moments, well, heck, he has cancer after all. That in it's self is pretty depressing, and then they tell you it's stage IV, more depressing. But look forward, believe in the future, because for many of us, the future can be many more years, of a continued happy life.
    The most important thing, is positive attitude, and well, I've believed this since I was diagnosed, a few prayers, doesn't hurt either.

    tons of hope
    I think last time we had a stage 4 survivors roll call it was numerous pages long. Stage 4 survivor here and there is alot of hope.

    There are more of us stage 4 folks making it fine. This March my colon surgeon told me “you are going to be around for a long time”. I am 28 months from DX. The idiot doc that did my chemo said I would be dead by now. I don’t even smell bad yet.

    I was dx back in Mar 09. My onc practically wrote up my toe tag. On my 2nd time around with chemo but still going strong and have no plans to leave . Good luck to you, great attitude. Only God knows for sure!

    Hi Elaine, I was dx cc met to liver and lungs on Jun 2003, colon,liver,lungs resection, and sugeries for obstruction and twice hernia, and many many chem. my last onc visited March this year, was told healthy by the doc. Yes, there is hope and mircle, and I prais the good Lord. God bless you dad and his family.

    Five additional things I tried
    Hi,
    I don't know if this is cause for hope or not, but I have an old post here detailing the five things I tried in addition to radiation, chemo, and surgery. I had a terminal diagnosis, and recovered, but have recently had a reoccurence of cancer high up on my spine. But the original cancer in my colo-rectal area is no longer detectable.     My Onc, told me at my last visit, that after "surgery" should that happen, he expects me to be NED for 5 years, and after that date, CURED. I'm stage IV, and I'm looking forward to the words CURED!!!

    Phil You are my hero I quote you alot and read everything you write Grateful thanks
    I noticed that my NCI oncs changed their body language when I got mets, withdrew slightly, seemed to feel they were failing or something. So now I am trying to support them in the idea that IV is not the time to throw in the towel and withdraw it is time to gear up the troops, the faith, the support and ENJOY life. After 4 years and almost never NED I know this to be true.
