Swallowing Problem Question

My dad was dx with EC 4-mets to the liver 3 weeks ago. He started chemo right away. The first couple of days after chemo his swallowing improved. Since then it has been so up and down. Some days he feels like he can barely swallow liquids then the next day he is able to eat popcorn and fried shrimp! There also does not seem to be a pattern as to what will make him gag and then vomit. Foods we think are "safe" to serve might not go down at all but in the same day he will be able to eat something you would never expect to go down. One day I'm worried that he needs a J-Tube but then I hear he went to Long John Silvers a day later!
This is a roller coaster as many of you have described. Most days I feel like crying but then I hear about his new fried fish cravings and I have to smile and laugh a bit about him getting to enjoy something during this journey.
If anybody here has experienced something like this I would love to hear about it. Any advise of suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks....Deb
