Care Giver Recognition Week - Per Kimba's Post
I changed my profile photo, this photo is of my lovely wife and care giver ~ Shelley....I know that it wasn't easy. Believe it or not, LOL, I can be quite the Butt-Hole when I'm irritated and don't feel well. Something that we all go through under these conditions.
Anyways, this was taken a few weeks ago while on an outing at the beach and a local beach-dock eatery. Her name is Shelley and those that are on our Face Book, know we are both pretty humorous. She has to have a sense of humor to be married to me...we've been together for 18+ years now.
BTW, I'll probably get into trouble for this photo, she doesn't like it. But to me, it shows that inner beauty that she tends to protect most of the time.

John, not sure why she wouldn't like it. I think it's a great pic. Like you I feel blessed that I have such a wonderful wife and friend to see me through this tough time. I'm sure you'll agree it was dark days for a time. I hope the sun stays out for you and Shelly for a long time to come. Take care.

She's beautiful...
Shelley is a very beautiful woman and I especially love her smile. It is such a genuine smile, you can tell she was not posing for this picture, this smile comes from the heart. She sounds like a wonderful person so you'd better treat her right ;-) But, then again, I have the feeling that she can handle you quite nicely.
I'll have to see if I can dig up a pic of Bob, my husband, and I will post it for a week. Then I have to go back to my dog's pic cuz I love him as much as I love my husband - lol.
Tell Shelley this is a beautiful picture and she should be proud of it.

Yes, that's what I like most about it, I got her in a natural emotion and not posed....her true self.
Yes, she definitely keeps me inline, LOL....

John, I have already checked out the pics of Kali and Jasmine, I love dogs and especially enjoyed your pics because I now know that I am not the only one who spoils their dogs ;-) I love the pic of them stretched out on the couch while you had to sit on the very edge. It reminds me of when I go to bed at night, I'm practically falling out of bed because "my boys" are all stretched out and snoring. Jasmine also has a beautiful smile ;-)

Claire and Noah
Wow John, your post made me cry just about instantly. I was thinking all week about how to respond to Kim's powerful post. I really had nothing to offer that everyone else already covered. At the sight of Kelly though, somehow I was moved to tears and I think it has something to do with connecting with the pain, frustration, disappointment, fatigue, stress, and all the other things our caregivers have held with and for us. Their commitment to us is a testament to love and the depth of feeling I have around this is huge. I am so deeply grateful.
My wife Claire (pictured here) has been/is amazing. I have alluded before to how cancer saved our marriage as it allowed us to refocus on what is important. I am a better person to have this selfless soul as my partner.
My friend Noah, pictured in my expressions, is another selfless soul who stayed with me in hospital and visited every day for weeks as he commuted 100 miles a day between San Francisco and Sonoma. His care and wit and strength and understanding helped me through some difficult moments.
I love them and thank them. I also love and thank this community. All your thoughts and prayers (yep I'll take 'em) have meant so much to my strength through treatment and recovery.

Here we are on my last day of treatment, about to ring the bell.
Linda and I have been married almost 15 years. She's a stay at home mom with a master's degree in entomology. We have four really great kids...Sarah is 10 years old, Grant & Paige are 7 yrs. old and Bryce is 3 yrs old.
Linda has never waivered in her care for me and our family. The kids haven't missed a beat this summer with art camps, science camps, trips to the pool, sleep-overs, even flew with all four to Oregon for a family reunion...You name it, she has done an unbelievable job keeping "normalcy" in our home. We have worried about our kids and their feelings / perceptions about my cancer. We have answered their questions and kept them in the loop with this challenge.
As for me, I am in awe of her caring, organization and attention to detail with the kids, my diagnosis, treatment and care. We took turns driving...and then she drove me to every appointment when I was a mess. She was always prepared with questions, taking copious notes at each appt. Our care team knows who we are; Linda can do some serious baking, and provided treats to our team all along the way.
I could go on and on...the bottom line is that I'm so fortunate to have her in my life, I'm a better man because of her. I love my Linda.0 -

I always like when people post their pics. Easier to remember them and when I'm thinking about this site when I'm not on it, I can picture all my new friends when I get a little down. But with Shelley and Claire's pics on there, all I can imagine is John and Mick's voices coming out of the girls mouths....Yes I am weird and that was almost frightening. LOL.

John and all, I want to say God bless all our caregivers. You were just as important to our healing as our treatments were. I personally could NOT have done it w/o the help of my mate. I would have been lost w/o all his love and care.
Now I'm gonna blow your minds, my mate is my EX husband. We still live together as tho we are married and we are best friends. I know that's strange but it works for us.
Anyway, thank you to all you caregivers. You could never realize what a vital part you played or are playing in fighting this nasty disease.

Sometimes the unconventional is the method that works best.... In your situation it could be thought that what you now have allows a more true commitment.
Anyways just a thought on the unconventional.
People tend to think that Shelley and I have a strange relationship concerning bills an banking.
Shelley and I still have and maintain separate checking and savings accounts (she is on my accounts and I hers). She pays for her expenses as for her car, insurance and personal bills, as do I with mine. She pays for some of the common bills and groceries, I pay a few common bills and the mortgage PITI. I don't give her any grief on what she spends her extra money on, an the same with her with me.
Anyways, LOL...just something that works well for us....

I think it's great to post pictures of those who we couldn't have made it without, our caregivers. Here is a picture of Joey taken 2 summers ago. I love the care free laugh he has here. I know I don't deserve him sometimes, but I am sure glad he never gave up on me. Thank you Joey for always being there through the extra parts(lol), bald spots, vomiting, blood draws, and especially the mood swings. And an extra hug to my son Max..he was the one in the cap and gown that was in my old pic. 18 years old and yet he stepped in when Joey was working and couldn't be there. Not many kids can do that and still graduate with honors. God Bless our caregivers..all of them.

but isn't into jewelry. Yesterday when I first changed the picture it didn't show up, today it shows the pic of Bob. Weird!!!
