Mickey Had Surgery...

Sorry to hear the news, but don’t give up hope. Question; how they know there are microscopic cancer cells in the muscle and shoulders? I too have about 40% blockage in the Carotid Artery due to the radiation. The numbers 3,6 & 9 months are they talking treatment or what.

The 3, 6 and 9 were survial time period from the Dr's.
Now, when they realeased him yesterday, I asked the Dr what he expected from more Chemo and Radiation, which I agree with you, as to the radiation, I do not think we should do and he replied, well, "we just do not know, hopefully the chemo will arrest/slow the spread of this rampid SCC he has".
Nothing, since we started this journey has worked out as they have said and this is one of the top surgeons and staff in California.
What should we do Hondo !!
Your cases sound similar.
As to the microscopic spread, I assmue he saw it when he operated, he said he cut until he had clear margins. But, could not get the entire SCC off the artery.
Mickey is 63 and very healthy except for this.
He has 1/2 of his tounge rebuilt, but he still cannot eat or chew, he was living on Enusre and shakes, now due to the surgery he is now on peg feeding, which he is doing himself, which according to the Dr., he should be able to swallow again soon....
I don't know, so much talk and so little results and hope.
I do pray, I read your bio and see you are very faithful, but mine is shaken and weak right now, seems anything and everything we pray for goes the opposite way.
He has had chemo, Eributux and Radiation, finsihed in March or April 2010
This new cancer showed up on the opposite side of the neck, so they did a wide neck disection last Tuesday.
Sorry for such a long post, it is just that I feel we you he connect somehow ?

Sorry to hear about the latest news about Mickey. After reading your posts I thought of a book that I read recently. It is "Cancer - The Complete Recovery Guide" by Joanathan Chamberlain. This person is not a medical expert but his wife had cancer. He has put together a list of current orthodox practices along with a thorough list of alternative approaches. He leans very much towards the alternative approaches but does not recommend one. In fact he summarizes by saying at decision time you have the following choices:
1. Orthodox routine only.
2. Alternative approaches only.
3. Orthodox approach first and if that doesn't work, try alternative approaches.
4. Alternative approaches and if that doesn't work, try orthodox approach.
5. Combine aternative and orthodox from the start.
6. Do nothing.

I did the orthodox approach and I'm doing good, but I'm only 15 weeks out. I'm looking to increase my chances by including some alternative methods. I am not doing anything risky or "too out there", but I want to get the odds in my favor. I'm implementing a better diet, the right supplements and vitamins, getting myself in good physical condition and using breathing and mind/body techniques to help my chances along with being in a support group (Here!). There are a lot of other more aggresive alternative methods also.

I'm not recommending any of these, but I thought this might be a good tool for you and Mickey, if you're so inclined. From your post it appears you both are fighters and if I was in Mickey's shoes I might look at some the more aggressive approaches in the book as possible options.

I usually buy my books on-line. Sometimes I go to Barnes & Noble or one of the other bookstores when I want to do some browsing, but that selection is somewhat limited when you're looking for something in particular. Someone gave me this recommendation; forget who, but don't think it was from this site. I think I bought it on Amazon. Got it used if I remember correctly for about 1/2 price. Let me know if you have trouble finding it.
