Support Connection Inc. is a not-for-profit organization offering free and
confidential support services to people affected by ovarian and breast cancer.
Once a month, Support Connection offers an ongoing free telephone support group
for women living with ovarian cancer. Like all of our support groups, it is
facilitated by a survivor, and is designed to provide an opportunity for women
with a common diagnosis to share their concerns and support one another. It just
so happens that this group takes place on the telephone. Participants in our
group include women who live locally as well as women from across the country.
The next scheduled ovarian cancer telephone support group will take place on
August 11. As with all Support Connection services, there is no cost to be a
part of this group. Participants call into a toll-free number that we provide
and are connected with the group. The group takes place on the second Wednesday
of every month at *8:00 pm (*NY time.) If you or someone you know has or had
ovarian cancer and would benefit from the chance to share and derive support
from other women with the same diagnosis, call our office in advance at
914-962-6402, or toll-free at 800-532-4290, to register and receive instructions
on how to participate in this telephone support group.
In addition to ongoing support groups and peer counseling, Support Connection
also offers wellness programs; educational forums; resources and referrals; and
a toll-free support hotline 1-800-532-4290. Based in Yorktown Heights, NY, and
serving people throughout the country, Support Connection has provided counseling,
support and educational services to thousands of women, their families and
friends since opening their doors in 1996. To learn more about the free services
and programs offered by Support Connection, visit us on the web at

Talking therapies
What a valuable service. Here in the UK we have an organisation called "Maggies". It is a charitable group that operates near to the cancer centre at a major hospital. Patients and people touched by cancer just "drop in" and can chat to staff and volunteers about emotional & psychological aspects of the impact that cancer has had on their lives. We have about 8 all around the country & I attended one of these a few weeks ago. It was up-lifting and I talk about it being like a pilgrimage. I spent over an hour with the centre head talking through my fears, concerns and worries. He was fantastic and has helped me so much.
Talking about cancer really helps to come to terms with it.
