I know I brought up this topic before. I am planning another vacation cruise to Bahamas from NYC next month. Again, I am fearful I may get 'sick' while out at sea. How many people have took a vacation while they were actively undergoing treatment?

Thanks for any input.

    vacation
I can see that my mom has a bit of trouble planning vacations since her diagnosis. There are so many what-ifs. I say go for it. If you become sick, whoever you are with will make sure you get the treatment you need. Most likely you will be fine. You deserve every bit of vacation you can get with what you go through day in and day out.

    I went on vacation
I went on vacation last year between my third and fourth carbo/taxol treatments. That's when I started neupogen shots since I was flying and close quarters on the plane could have exposed me to infection. If you're going to be on a cruise there will be doctors on board who can take care of anything that comes up, I think that outweighs not getting the chance to relax and enjoy yourself.

    Hi Nancy
I travelled to NY (From Aust) and then onto Brazil while halfway through treatment with no problems. On a cruise there will be doctors so you should not worry too much and just enjoy. Jenny

I went to the beach for a week with 2 rounds of chemo in me.
I took a 1-week break from my weekly taxol infusions and went to the beach with my family over July 4th week. The week before I left I had my usual chemo on Monday and was given 3 shots of Nuepogen the next 3 days to get my immunity at its best for my vacation. I had a wonderful time and went right back into chemo 2 days after I returned. Please have a GREAT vacation!

    Hi,

    I say go for it.

I've done it and sometimes I think many of us would do a lot better if we
had a means (i.e. a vacation), to take our minds off of our predicament sometimes.

I had slight moments of fatigue or nausea, but it always passed for me and I would
continue on to the next adventure. :-)

Please enjoy your vacation, you deserve it.

    Nancy,
    Cruise away darlin'!

    Nancy,

Cruise away darlin'! Chances are slim that you'll get terribly sick while at sea, but if you do, these days that's what ship's doctors and helicopters are for! (How awful is it that I've thought through to helicopters? Ahhh, the things cancer makes us think about!) At any rate, you'll be fine, you'll have a wonderful, relaxing time and you'll come back refreshed, revitalized and ready to kick some cancer butt!

Send us some cool Caribbean night air!

    Hugs!

And my doctor encourages me to go. Are you having any side-effects so far?

    thanks everyone
thanks for all the words of encouragement. No, I am not having any symptoms from the cancer and the Gemzar is not bad at all. I am just a worrier!!! Being out at sea makes it even more worrisome for me. The cruise I went on in late June went fine but I did get a case of anxiety. About the 2nd day out at sea I panicked because I was having rib pain. I was able to get through the acute anxiety but I was 'nervous' for part of the trip. I went for a massage which helped. Once we got to Bermuda though I relaxed and suffered no further anxiety or the remaineder of the trip.

    Thanks again to all!

Nancy, go and and enjoy yourself. I usually go with a bunch of friends and this year they are going without me. I am going to miss it. My doctor said he didn't want me to fly just yet. He said he is trying to get me where I can do those kinds of things. You have fun.

    Rib pain
Nancy, it's so weird. I have rib pain too. It's been really bad. I talked to my surgeon on Friday and he said he wouldn't say it was impossible, but he said if ovarian turned into bone cancer, it would be about the same amount of times you see a green dog. So hopefully our rib pain is nothing but simple rib pain.

I'm leaving in 2 weeks for an Alaskan cruise. I have no worries at all. In fact, I plan to tell them this week after chemo that I will miss next week before I leave for the trip because I want to feel good while I'm on the trip. I have to have chemo the rest of my life and it doesn't seem like too much to have two weeks off.

I think you should take your trip! :-)

    Love,
    Marty

    Vacationing....
    Nancy,
I flew to Maui for a 2 week vacation AMA....my husband pushed me in a wheelchair thru the airports on our way over and I walked on my own the way home.....Vacations do you a world of good...I came home and finished my 5th and 6th rounds of chemo.
    Do go! You deserve it!
