Port Surgery
Mine was a piece of cake -other than my dr being an hour late & so I had to go a full 17 hours with no food or drink....but, it was so fast, they took such good care of me, and the pain is not too bad, especially compared to my mastectomy! My husband and I were joking away in my pre-op room, so I was feeling feisty all day. Apparently when I came to in the recovery room, I woke up talking & joking with the nurse. The last thing I remember after I got into the surgery room before I went out was saying something to make them laugh!
I hope you all had good surgeries as well, let me know how it went! My chemo starts August 3rd!
*hugs all around*

So glad it all went well.
So glad it all went well. Gotta have a sense of humor, that's great! Don't know if I'll need that haven't met my Onc yet. I feel so in the dark. I have no idea what's going to happen next. Sounds like you are making good progress. Keep up the good work.0 -

Port surgery is a snap compared to other stuff. You'll love your port. Best thing about the surgery? Happy juice. Worst thing? The OR is so damn cold. Good experience altogether.

they tried in two places with mine or searching for veins on top of thr actual port site...my neck hurts you can see bruising there where an attempt was made...I'm stiff...i cannot write...I'm in pain...I'm excited that it is over and chemo start soon...

NONETHELESS IM IN GOOD SPIRIT...
GLAD you're in good spirits!! Sorry they had to stick you so much before they finally got in there, that's terrible! I begged my surgeon to put my scar as far off to the side as possible -im going through all this with the plastic surgeon to get this great new chest & I'd rather not have a giand scar going across the top of one of them -but from the placement of my bandage (i can't take it off until tomorrow-48 hrs after surgery), it looks like it will be a pretty visible one Oh well, I told him if the scar got in my way I'd just put a tattoo over it.
I'm not in too much pain from the port surgery -I'm still sore from the mastectomy/expander surgery. This new pain is just from having an incision, I think. It's more of a stinging type. That added to the previous pain though makes me thankful for the pain meds!
Glad to hear that you're in good spirits, though, I hope you get to feeling better soon & our next step is chemo!
*hugs*

Lynn,
Thank you so much. That makes me smile I was just telling my husband this morning, "as big as a whiny baby that I can be -who would have thought I'd end up being such a well adjusted cancer patient" lol. Sometimes I get cranky about it, but I'm just going about this whole cancer thing with an "it is what it is" zen-like attitude. Being angry and stressed about it will just make things harder on me, my kids, and my husband.

younger ' breast cancer ' sisters. I enjoy reading your posts, and can not take my eyes off of your pink and blond hair.! LOVE it!
I am thinking about getting a 'pink' ribbon tatt - inner left ankle, what do you think ? I know you have a few tatt's - my son who has several - at age 20 thinks it's a good idea and would like to add same tatt of pink ribbon to his back.
Keep on smiling ..

Glad your port surgery went well.
Heather you are so right i try to have the same outlook too...you just said it better.
"It is what it is" and being angry and stressed just makes it harder for everyone.
Vickisam...me and my sisters were all talking about getting the pink ribbon tats between our thumb and index finger. So i dont think its a goofy idea.0 -

I had my port removed on Friday and for this they just use a local, they dont put you to sleep. I wasnt quite numb the first time she started cutting, so i felt the burning of the razor blade cutting me. After my scream she made sure that i got numb and all went good after that. It was wierd being awake though. But it was easy after getting stuck with the needle for numbing. Glad you are well.

Hey Heather
Glad everything went well yesterday, except for the fact that they starved you. I told them the same thing you did about where to put my port. Unfortunately, they didn't listen and it is right in the middle above my right breast. Oh well. I have my 3rd chemo next Wednesday, the same day as your first. I'll be thinking about you while I'm sitting there. Hugs, Jean0 -

My port was inserted Monday when I woke up I had two incisions covered with gauze... I wrote in a previous post that they tried to put it in my neck and then decided on chest (I initially thought the neck rejected the device)... I now know they begin the process by threading the catheter into a large vein in my neck… and then pushed it in until it rests just above your heart...
That is why my neck hurts and there is some bruising… My neck is so stiff… I just put a heating pad on neck area and I have found relief…
The actual site where port is… does not really bother me… I am ready for chemo…0 -
