We had a WONDERFUL time....wonderful. scans were good. Cancer gone from all nodes now we are left w what to do on the liver. Our doc doesn't seem too knowledgable. So I'm here for input;) by the way...layne repelled down a mtn and back up by rope on vacation...so I guess he feels good!!

    SIR-Spheres
    Hi Betty -

Great to read about your fun vacation and good news on the nodes!!

My Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 EC a year ago with mets to the liver. After 10 straight months of chemo, he just completed treatment with SIR-spheres which is a radioactive treatment only for the liver. We have to wait about 6-8 more weeks before doing a PET scan to measure how successful it is but we are optimistic.

Jim (of Sherri and Jim) had a very similar procedure done called Theraspheres with very positive results (I think you also posted to their string)

Here is the main website information for SIR-spheres: http://www.sirtex.com/

In a nutshell they insert radio-active spheres directly into the liver via the hepatic artery in the groin.

This is available in multiple locations around the country but we are very happy with Dr. Nutting in Denver (not too far from Vegas!) who was the first doctor in the country to do one of these procedures and has done over 600 of them with (overall) terrific results.

If your doctor is not familiar with this to guide you then I highly recommend you start the research on your own and arrange for a consult with a doctor who performs the procedure. Your doctor will need to transfer the EC history so the interventional radiologist can make an assessment.

I'm happy to share more information and our experience with it so far - let me know if you want me to go on! Would be happy to chat by phone as well - sometimes that's easier :)

    Gret News!!!
    Betty,

Great to hear the scans are good!!! Nice to have a vacation to recharge your batteries.

Perhaps SIR-Spheres will be a good option for Layne as well. Let's hope so.

    great news!
So glad you had a wonderful vacation and Layne is feeling so great!!! And the scans just make it just a win win. I am agreeing with everyone here about finding out about the spheres. Sherri tells us the great results Jim has had and I know I would give them a try if it came to liver involvement. glad you made it home safe and sound!!! take care, prayers for all,
